This is my self-care today. Hanging out with my beautiful Staffy, Luna, while the kids are at the beach with their dad, granny and uncle. The beach is a hellscape for me - fill sensory nightmare! So, I’m chilling at the house, watching The Rookie while they enjoy that.

Then we will have dinner together, probably at the local pub the kids love πŸ˜‚

We have been working hard in the background to get this out of Shae's brain and make it a reality. We have worked hard to create this, record it, make a YouTube Channel, learn how to setup Humantix, embed coding, and so much more! This is our first webinar, so there is definitely room for improvement! However, this was created by two REAL women who are mums, carers, colleagues, providers, volunteers. The only AI involved was the Google summary for all of the "how do I...?" searches we did 🀣

The skills we learned as teachers during the pandemic delivering remote learning finally came in handy!

Tickets are 'Pay what you can afford' and we wholeheartedly believe that someone's financial situation shouldn't be a barrier to learning. So if you can't afford anything then $0 is completely fine. If you can afford more than that would be so appreciated.

Don't be afraid to ask and accept help.

You are not taking it from someone else.

It doesn't matter who it is you care for.

You matter just as much as the person/people you care for.

You deserve it.

This week is National Carers Week!

We were invited by Carers Victoria to their Carers Afternoon Tea in the city. This gave us an opportunity to thank Kate Topp properly and in person for the support she provided us with implementing our 'Connecting Carers in the Community' grant last year. It was lovely to meet CEO of Carers Vic, Judith Abbott, who is an absolutely hilarious and glorious human.

It was great, as always, saying hi to the Different Journeys team! Connecting with other organisations and other carers was the stand out though. Everyone just...'gets it' at these event. On reflection, we realised that not one person asked "how are you?" As a carer you know not to ask that.

Being a parent doesn't mean you cannot be a carer. Both are true. Raising children with one or more disabilities, is VASTLY different to raising children without. Your life looks very different to the idea of what you had planned or envisioned parenting would be. You do whole risk management plans before do anything because if you don't your child could be seriously injured or go missing because they have absconded or become distracted. Bedtime is hard. Eating is hard. Shopping is hard. Driving is hard. School...that is harder than hard!

As a carer there are supports that you can access to make parts of life a little bit easier. We will post a bit of a list either in the next few hours, or few days πŸ˜‚ just being honest!

P.S. Shae was not okay with how high up we were. We can confirm her fear of heights is still very present!

We received another grant! We applied for this grant almost 12 months ago and we assumed we had been unsuccessful, until we received a lovely email from Lizzie Blandthorn's office informing us we had indeed been successful.

The two year project has been named: Find Your Village. Parents/Carers just don't have the village that was around when we were kids. The next door neighbour would supervise the children while the parent/carer ran to the supermarket or other families would take it in turns of looking after the kids on 'pupil free days.' We live in a very different world and sadly it is very isolating. We hope to help people in the community to re-discover what it means to have a village.

Thank you to Adele and Teagan from Mitchell Shire Council. Your enduring support means a great deal and goes well beyond this grant. We are very grateful for all you do for our little NFP.

Stayed tuned folks, we are organising events as we speak. We thank you for your patience.

ETA: This says AI content. I have no idea why, when we spent over an hour creating this flyer!

We hope everyone is across the changes to the NDIS as they slowly drip feed us information. We will continue to share updates from them as well as any broken down info from some of the brilliant people advocating and supporting the disabled community during this exceptionally difficult period.

It’s okay to be worried, anxious or feel overwhelmed. We are feeling that too. While we can’t fix this, we can be a listening ear. Know that we at The Neuroverse Foundation, have children, friends and other family members on the NDIS.

Some changes are coming – what you need to know.

From 1 October, some budgets will be reduced over the following 12 months in two support categories:

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Social, Economic and Community Participation

πŸ‘‰πŸΌ Improved Daily Living Skills.

The impacts will be different for every participant because every plan is based on individual goals, circumstances and support needs.

Participant safety and wellbeing are our priority, so a range of supports will not be affected.

Supports that won’t be affected include essential day-to-day supports like help with eating, drinking, dressing, toileting, laundry, cleaning, nurse care, and medication.

This week is National Week of Deaf People (21-27 Sept 2026).

At The Neuroverse Foundation we are working to be better educated to be able to support deaf and hard of hearing people in accessing the services they need from the NDIS.

Shae is trying to learn Auslan, but it is hard. Nevertheless we persist, because if it is hard for us as hearing people, then what must it be like for the Deaf Community?

From deafaustralia

The National Week of Deaf People (NWDP) is a week-long national celebration of Deaf individuals and the Australian Deaf community, which includes celebrating the International Week of Deaf People (IWDP) and International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) which are initiatives of the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD). These two events are traditionally held during September and are based on the founding date of the WFD (23 September 1951). is an opportunity for Deaf people to celebrate their communities, language, culture and history; make the public aware of their local, state and national Deaf communities; and to recognise their achievements.

It is also an opportunity for organisations involved with or wishing to be involved with the Deaf Community to build and maintain relationships with Deaf people and be recognised as an ally to the Deaf community.
