That's a wrap on Podiatry Week 2026! 👣

This week we've talked about everything podiatrists do, the misconceptions we're busting, and why ongoing foot and leg pain is always worth checking, not living with.

Two ways to take it further:

🔹 Had something niggling all week? Find a podiatrist near you and get it looked at – https://apoda.au/podweek26-find-a-pod/

🔹 Curious about a career that keeps people moving? Podiatry is a registered health profession with study pathways across Australia, find out how to become a podiatrist – https://apoda.au/podweek26-careers/

Thank you to every podiatrist, partner and patient who shared their stories this week. Your feet do more than you think, and so do podiatrists.

The excuses about foot pain or discomfort we've all made at some point:

“It'll go away on its own.”
“I'll deal with it after the busy season.”
“It's not that bad, really.”
“I'll just buy better shoes.”

Sometimes those things help but often they just delay a much simpler fix.

A podiatrist can tell you whether something needs attention now or whether you really can leave it.

Either way, you'll know instead of wondering. Stop making excuses for your feet, book the appointment you've been putting off.

Sound familiar? These are some of the most common things podiatrists hear in clinic:

“I've just learned to live with it.”

“I probably should've come in sooner.”

“I didn't know podiatrists could help with that.”

“I thought it would just go away on its own.”

If any of these sound like something you've said (or thought) about your own feet or legs, that's your sign.

Podiatrists can help with a much broader range of foot and lower-limb concerns than most people realise.

“It's probably just normal wear and tear.”

No, it's not normal.

From sore feet after every shift to toenails that keep changing colour or shape, heel pain first thing in the morning to pins and needles that won't go away or any pain that's slowly changed how you walk, exercise or play with your kids.

None of that is something you just have to put up with, and it's not always “just part of getting older” either.

Ongoing pain or changes in your feet and legs are worth getting checked by a podiatrist. Early attention often means simpler treatment.

This , if something's been bothering you longer than it should, book in and get it looked at.

Today is Allied Health Professionals Day (AHPs Day) and it's no coincidence Podiatry Week overlaps with it. 🙌

This year's AHPs Day theme, “𝘼𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙙 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝: 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚, 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙬𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚" highlights the vital contribution allied health professionals make to improving health and wellbeing across all communities and settings.

Podiatrists are proud members of the allied health workforce, working alongside physiotherapists, dietitians, occupational therapists and more to keep Australians moving, active and independent.

We chose to run Podiatry Week over Allied Health Professionals Day because podiatry's impact is best understood as part of that bigger picture, one piece of a team that supports people's health from the ground up (quite literally).

Happy Allied Health Professionals Day to podiatrists and every allied health professional out there!

Let's clear up a few things about podiatry, straight from the people who do it.

“Podiatrists only deal with nails and corns.” Not even close.

“You only need to see one if something's already gone wrong.” Not true, podiatrists help you stay ahead of problems too.

“It's not a ‘real’ health profession.” Podiatrists are registered, university-qualified health professionals with a broad scope of practice.

This Podiatry Week, we're setting the record straight on everything podiatry really covers from sports and biomechanics to diabetes care and paediatrics.

Watch to the end 👇 and tag a podiatrist who deserves more credit.
