Running ≠ Strength Training

Running and cycling make you fitter, but not stronger 💪.

You still need strength training to prevent injuries and power up your pace.

It's Movember!

Men’s mental and physical health is something I’m passionate about supporting, and this year I’m doing my bit by growing a mo, and also running 60km for the 60 men we lose to su***de every hour globally to help raise awareness for su***de prevention.

Sometimes, simply showing up and letting someone know you’re there can make all the difference. Check in on your mates, start the conversation, and remind the people around you that they’re never alone.

If you want to join the fundraiser, grow a mo, run with us, or donate, follow the link below to get started!

Today we're looking at pulling movements. Moving from banded latt pull-downs and into pull-ups. It seems like a big jump, but there are many progressions in between that we can help you with!

Pulling movements develop upper-body strength by challenging your back, arms, grip, and core all at once. And while you don't need to be able to do a full pull-up to benefit, building the strength to pull your body through space is a great skill to work towards - Make it a goal!

Building back and grip strength are great for improving your gym or sport performance. While also building strength for everyday activities, and also simply make carrying and holding things easier.

If elite runners have someone watching their load, recovery, and form… why not you?

Today we're looking at exercises to build grip strength. Grip strength is involved in so many of the things we do every day, and there are plenty of ways to train it depending on your goals and current ability. Here we start with farmer carries, and work our way up into dead hangs!

Farmer carries can be scaled or progressed very easily - remember, if it feels too easy, grab a higher weight! Then before you know it you'll be doing a dead hang for a minute!
Grip strength is one of the most important and most forgotten about movements to train. It can play an important role in many daily activities like carrying groceries, opening jars and containers at home, and even allowing you to do other exercises where grip strength is needed (like our favourite deadlifts)!

Did you know? In a massive review of 30 studies, involving almost 195,000 older adults, higher grip strength was associated with an 18% lower risk of all-cause mortality!

Today is Osteoporosis day! Osteoporosis is a typically widespread weakening of bone that can cause them to be more fragile and at risk of fracture. It is significantly more common as we get older, especially in females, but the best ways to avoid it is by proper diet and exercise.

Most high impact exercise helps maintain bone strength through compressive forces, including landings, pogos, our favorite deadlifts, and many more, even running! If you'd like your own rehab program that helps maintain bone strength, or you already have osteoporosis, reach out and we'll be able to help get you an exercise program that is safe for you.

Strength Training: Not Just for Gym Bros 🏋️‍♀️

Runners, hear us out: strength doesn’t slow you down—it propels you forward.

Glutes, hammies, core. Train them like your PB depends on it (because it does).

Today we're looking at pushing movements. Working our way up from incline push-ups, to dumbbell chest presses. There are plenty of variations and adaptations to suit different abilities and goals. Reach out if this progression doesn't work for you and we can help personalise it for you!

Pushing movements can help build strength through the chest, shoulders and triceps, while also challenging your core to maintain a strong and controlled neutral position. Developing pushing strength can carry over into everyday activities such as pushing open a heavy door, getting yourself up from the floor, moving objects, or even pushing a pram or pushing your child on a swing.

Whether you're working towards your first push-up, building more strength in the gym, or simply wanting to improve your shoulder stability to take strain away from your neck and shoulder, pushing movements done right can help!

Did you know? A standard push-up from the floor can have you pressing roughly 60–70% of your body weight!
