Blue Wing Care knows how hard it is to get the right supports, so we’re here to provide personalised solutions that help you achieve your goals and live more independently. Blue Wing's mission is to empower and enable individuals and families so they have room to breathe and feel relief. Our staff respect each client and know that every disability is not the same. All of us struggle with very different circumstances and situations. We don't want you feeling isolated or going through depression alone. Our staff will be there for drop-in supports for you to maintain living in your ideal lifestyle. We will help you get the equipment you might not even know you need or have access to and help you engage with the community. You will also be helped with maintaining a healthy physical and mental lifestyle. Blue Wing operates throughout NSW and QLD. Our disability services footprint in NSW includes Camden, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Parramatta, Bankstown, Penrith, the Central Coast and Tweed Heads. The Queensland (QLD) service area includes the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

A useful escalation plan should answer three questions:

1. What change or threshold triggers action?
2. What should the worker do immediately?
3. Who must be contacted, and in what order?

The plan should also be easy to find, current and specific to the participant.

Vague instructions such as ‘monitor closely’ or ‘contact someone if concerned’ can leave workers guessing during a high-risk situation.

Workers still need participant-specific training and competency assessment. A written plan does not replace training.

A change in transfers is important information.
If getting on or off a chair, bed, toilet or vehicle is becoming harder, take note of what has changed.

Look at things like:
- how much help is now needed
- pain or fatigue
- changes in balance
- equipment changes
- slips, near misses or injuries

A change like this may need review by an Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist, who can look at the task, environment, equipment and current support method.

Until then, follow the person’s current support plan and escalation procedures. Avoid trying unfamiliar manual-handling techniques from social media.

Notice the change. Record what you’re seeing. Seek the right support.

Providers delivering supported independent living were required to be registered from 1 July 2026 and had until 1 October to apply for registration.

For participants, families and referrers, registration status is one important check, but it is not the whole quality assessment.

Before choosing or continuing with a SIL provider, confirm:
• registration or application status
• how the support agreement works
• how tenancy and support arrangements are separated
• how rosters respond to actual support needs
• how complaints, incidents and changes are handled
• how the participant is involved in decisions

The NDIS has advised that a participant’s plan and funding will not change solely because of the registration change.

A safe placement still depends on the right support model, compatibility, competent workers and transparent communication.

Start a folder and confirm who is authorised to make the request.

Some NDIS support budgets begin changing from 1 October 2026, but the impact will not be the same for everyone.

The change applies as new plans are approved or existing plans are reassessed to certain budgets within Social, Economic and Community Participation and Improved Daily Living Skills. Several supports are excluded, including disability-related health and high-intensity supports.

The practical next step is to check the participant’s actual plan and the official NDIA information. Avoid assuming every plan or every support has been reduced.

Blue Wing can help clarify service options and referral pathways. Funding and plan decisions remain with the NDIA.

Equipment can work perfectly in a showroom and become a headache the moment it gets home.

Maybe it does not fit through the doorway.
Maybe it is too heavy to transport.
Maybe it works for five minutes but becomes uncomfortable after half an hour.
Maybe it solves a problem the participant was not actually worried about.

That is why a good assistive technology trial looks beyond, "Does it work?"

It asks whether it works for this person, for the right task, in the places they actually live their life.

The goal is not the most impressive equipment.

It is the right fit.
