Things they don’t tell you about being a Paeds OT…

You’ll spend years learning about child development, sensory processing, fine motor skills and executive functioning…

But nobody mentioned the part where your session ends with you picking up the entire contents of your craft box from the floor! 🫠😅

🧶 Pipe cleaners
✨ Glitter
🌈 Pom poms
🪶 Feathers
😂 Chaos
🚀 Lots of learning!

A perfectly normal day in the life of a paediatric OT 😂

Happy OT Week to our amazing CT Kids OTs! Thank you for all the creativity, patience, fun and heart you bring every day 💙✨🌈

You see a car... 🚗

But an OT sees:
🧠 Planning and problem-solving
👌🏻 Fine motor skills and hand strength
👀 Visual-spatial skills
🎯 Attention and concentration
💭 Creativity and flexible thinking
🌟 Confidence and a sense of achievement

That's the beauty of paediatric therapy through play! What looks like “just Lego” can be an opportunity to practise skills that support children in everyday life.

And sometimes, the best part is simply seeing a child proudly hold up something they've created and say, “Look what I made!” 💙

Testing out some new gear! 📦✨

As responsible clinicians, we always make sure to thoroughly test new therapy equipment before introducing it into sessions…

And sometimes that means getting inside a lycra tunnel ourselves! 😂

Our team had a great time putting our newest sensory equipment through some very important clinical quality control 😉

Lycra tunnels can be a great therapy tool for supporting body awareness, proprioceptive input, motor planning, coordination and sensory regulation — while also encouraging movement and, most importantly, making therapy fun! 🌈

We’re happy to report: rigorous testing completed! ✅😂

Meet some of our After School Sport coaches! 👋🏼🏈

Meet Amy, Nicola and Amy! ✨

Our coaches help make our After School Sport groups a fun, supportive and inclusive place for kids to get involved, try new things and be part of a team.

Because sport is about so much more than being active! It's also about building confidence, practising teamwork, learning new skills and celebrating the little wins along the way 🙌🏼

Our next After School Sport group kicks off in Term 1, 2027, and we can't wait to get back on the field!

What makes a great paediatric Speech Pathologist? 🤔

It's not necessarily years of experience...

It's curiosity. Adaptability. Compassion. The ability to follow a child's lead and meet them where they're at.

Because sometimes the best therapy plan is the one you're willing to change when the child needs something different 💙

Whether you're an experienced Speechie or just starting your career, we're looking for clinicians who are curious, open to learning and passionate about supporting children and their families.

Could that be you? ✨ Lets have a chat!

We're proud to share that our dietitians are now credentialed in eating disorder treatment 💙

This means we can now support children and teenagers with eating disorders and disordered eating — including children accessing a Medicare Eating Disorder Care Plan.

Support might include helping someone understand their relationship with food, navigating challenges around eating, building confidence around food and mealtimes, and working towards sustainable, individualised nutrition goals.

And you don’t need to have all the answers before reaching out.

Please note that our Dietitians do not diagnose eating disorders — diagnosis is made by an appropriately qualified health professional — but they can provide nutrition support when an eating disorder or disordered eating is suspected or diagnosed.

Whether you’re a parent, GP, psychologist or another health professional wondering whether Dietetics could help, we’re here to support the next step.

Support is available across the lifespan.

If your child is a fussy eater, you're certainly not alone 😊

The good news is that fussy eating is very common during childhood. For many children, it's a normal part of development 🌱

Our role as Paediatric Dietitians is to work with you to understand why your child is finding certain foods difficult.

It might be related to:
👅 Taste,
🥑 Texture,
🧠 Sensory preferences,
⏰ Routine,
😟 Confidence around new foods,
🧩 Or something else entirely!

From there, we'll create practical, family-friendly strategies to help gradually increase the variety of foods your child feels comfortable eating, while making sure they're getting the nutrition they need to support healthy growth and development 🚀

There's no quick fix, but with the right support, mealtimes can become less stressful and more enjoyable for everyone 🥰🍽️

If you've been wondering whether your child's eating is typical or you'd simply like some guidance, we'd love to chat 💬

Steady, strong, and ready to stand! 🙌🏼

Supported standing is a big step in building strength, balance, and confidence for walking.

By practicing in a familiar space with engaging activities little ones develop the muscle control and coordination they need to take off on their own 🚀

🏡 With home-based physio, therapy fits right into daily life!

Families get hands-on guidance to encourage movement in a natural and playful way.

Not every disability is something you can see. 🌻

A child might seem happy, engaged and just like their peers, while navigating challenges with sensory processing, communication, fatigue, pain, learning, regulation or other aspects of everyday life.

Sometimes, the things that look like “behaviour” or a small challenge from the outside can take an enormous amount of effort for a child.

Getting ready for school.
Joining in with play.
Communicating what they need.
Managing sensory overwhelm.
Making friends.
Navigating changes and new situations.
Taking part in the things they love.

When a disability isn't visible, it can be harder for others to understand the support a child needs.

This Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week, we're reminding ourselves to look beyond what we can see.

🌻 To listen rather than assume.
🌻 To ask rather than judge.
🌻 And to recognise that support needs are not always visible.

Invisible disabilities deserve visible understanding 💙
