IT’S AUDIT TIME AGAIN
Why registration matters to us
Picture a mum sitting at her kitchen table late at night with her son’s new NDIS plan in front of her.
She’s read the plan three times. She’s browsed provider websites, read the Google reviews and made a few phone calls. Now she has one big question: “How do I know who I can trust with someone I love?”
She can’t be there for every shift. She can’t check every policy, every staff screening or every incident report herself. She needs to know someone has checked.
That’s a big part of why Hi Five Disability Support Services chooses to be a registered NDIS provider.
Reviews and word of mouth have their place. They tell you how people feel about their experience. What they can’t show is what happens behind the scenes. An independent NDIS audit can. Qualified auditors review how we actually operate. They check our records, talk with our team and the people we support, and test what we do against the NDIS Practice Standards.
During each audit, they look at:
How we protect each person’s rights, privacy and dignity
How our workers are screened, trained and supported
How we respond when something goes wrong
How we listen to feedback and keep improving
We’ve also come to see our auditors as some of our best teachers. Every finding is tied to a specific standard and backed by evidence, and auditors are themselves accredited and accountable for what they find. That makes their feedback different from general advice. It’s about how we operate, and it shows us exactly where we can do better. We’ve learned more from audit findings than from any seminar we’ve attended.
None of this replaces the trust built between a participant, their family and their support team. That trust is earned one shift and one conversation at a time. But registration adds a layer of independent accountability, so families like hers don’t have to carry every question alone.
This week we begin our next audit. As part of the process, auditors may contact some participants, families and staff to hear about their experience with us. If you receive a call, taking part is entirely your choice, and we’d encourage you to speak openly.
We could promote our business by comparing ourselves to others and talking up what makes us different. We choose not to. Instead, we let independent compliance set our standards, and we let our work speak for itself.
We welcome the audit, because every review helps us do better for the people who place their trust in us.
Every participant has the right to choose the provider that’s right for them. If you’d like to learn more about how we work, our door is always open.
