The Wild Orange Tree Embodied pelvic care & integrated mental health support for women and mothers

The Wild Orange Tree offers holistic health and wellness support that empowers women to navigate each stage of their motherhood journey. I am an occupational therapist, post-natal doula and practitioner of the Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®. By merging ancient wisdom and professional training I aim to be a source of information and support for women as they prepare, transition and grow into motherhood. Through this passion for women's health I want to see women thrive, embrace their feminine, and achieve their birthing and mothering potential.

Whatever choices you did, or would like to, make about birth - some of the available choices are going to get harder to make if we don’t see action from the government.

On November 21 there are going to be rallies all around the country asking for the government to fix this issue so that second midwives can be available for homebirth.

Sharing because if an option isn’t available you don’t have choice 👍🧡🍊

Drinking coffee.

One of my favourite weekend occupations 🧡

What’s an occupation you ask??? It’s the everyday things we do that make up life. The things that occupy our time. That give meaning and purpose.

What’s your favourite weekend occupations?

Why did I bring a pelvis to a mental health conference??

Because pelvic health is mental health.

The fear and anxiety after a birth injury.

The depression from vaginismus.

The thought spiral that accompanies prolapse.

The avoidance that comes with leaking.

The list goes on.

And connecting with the body and head space in an integrated way is another one of my favourite ways to work with women and mothers.

Whether that is providing education and reassurance.

Reviewing habits and routines.

Grading activities or modifying environments.

Considering posture, breath, pressure and functional movement.

Tending to the nervous system.

Exploring identity, meaning and role scripts.

Considering sensory or interoceptive factors.

Using somatic approaches.

Offering scar tissue remediation or soft tissue therapy.

Highlighting trauma informed care, pacing and informed consent.

Reclaiming parts of the body where someone has lost connection and belonging.

I love offering face to face and hands on support, and sharing how occupational therapists support pelvic health through an occupational lens.

I currently offer face to face sessions on the Sunshine Coast, Wollongong and Melbourne. Pelvic health support is also available online via Telehealth.

If you are realising how connected mind and body is when it comes to your pelvic health, I’d love to chat. Book a free connection call via my website, or send me a DM.

Why am I travelling with a wooden school bus??

Because it’s one of my favourite ways of working with women and mothers 🧡

I love working with parts based perspectives where we get curious about all the different parts of ourselves that show up in our day to day lives.

The happy part, the angry part, the mama bear part, the resentful part, the organised part, the raging part, the problem solving part, the lonely part…. Any of these feel familiar?

And I love to imagine all these parts as passengers on a bus.

WHO are the parts showing up on your bus? (can we name them and get to know them?)
HOW are they trying to help you? (yes, even the tricky ones ☺️)
HOW do they interact with each other? (most parts have a seat buddy 😜)
WHY do they talk loudly, be disruptive, hide, or even try to drive the bus? (all parts have roles that they like to play…)
WHEN do they become more present for you? (which parts come out when you are trying to navigate a toddler tantrum, play with your kids, or try to rest?)

And as an occupational therapist, parts based work isn’t just about getting to know our parts and bringing in compassion for our inner world.

It’s wondering about participation and occupation, and wondering how our parts are getting in the way or assisting us to do the everyday things we need, want and are expected to do.

A parts perspective can bring new insights into the barriers you face, changes you want to gently make, and what will help carry you through the current challenge, change or transition.

Curious about how the passengers in your bus might be impacting participation in daily life? I’d love to chat.

Book a free connection call or jump into my DM’s.

I’d love to support you to get to know your bus 🚌

That’s over and out from me for a week.

Can’t wait to spend some time away with family and friends.

And no reception means I can’t check in here even if I wanted too!!

If you have inquired about Ground and Grow I’m following up tomorrow morning.

Everyone who has already signed up will get more info when I am back.

Otherwise see you on the other side 🧡🍊

Women’s health and wellbeing is pretty hot right now. Whether it’s in the media, the women’s health senate inquiry, or the greater prevalence of conversations Im hearing on social media or face to face.

But I also see that occupational therapy isn’t always included. The incredible contribution that OT can make proactively and reactively, particularly if we were more integrated into the systems, is under recognised.

But we need to start with our own confidence that our occupational perspectives belong in this space. That we are allowed to do this work. That we aren’t competing but complimentary.

That confidence needs language, and our models of practice are really powerful at giving it to us. Perhaps they weren’t designed with women’s health specifically in mind, but the unique issues impacting the participation, engagement and identity of women can be clearly found there.

I’m currently finalising registrations for this round of my online group professional mentoring. We start with our first zoom call on October 22.

I’d love to invite in one more occupational therapist to join us. If you are feeling called, comment GROUND below or send me a DM with an email address so I can send you more details.

Love to see you there.
