FASCIA---FASCIA-----FASCIA----'FASCIA---FASCIA

The Body’s Invisible Spiderweb (That Somehow Runs Your Entire Life)

Most people have heard of muscles, some know about tendons and ligaments, but fascia?

Fascia is the quiet overachiever of the body.
It’s the cling wrap, support system, communication network, shock absorber, emotional filing cabinet, and internal wetsuit all rolled into one.
Basically, if your body were a house, fascia would be the walls, wiring, insulation, duct tape, and suspicious junk drawer.

What Is Fascia?
Fascia is a continuous web of connective tissue that surrounds and connects everything in your body, muscles, organs, nerves, bones, blood vessels, and even individual muscle fibres.
It’s everywhere literally head to toe.

Healthy fascia is flexible, hydrated, and glides smoothly. It allows your body to move freely and efficiently.

When fascia becomes tight, dehydrated, inflamed, overworked, or stuck from stress, injury, repetitive movement, poor posture, surgery, trauma, or emotional tension, things can start to hurt, and not always where you’d expect.

Fascia Is Why “Everything Is Connected”
Ever had shoulder pain caused by your hips?
Jaw tension linked to stress in your neck?
A tight foot that somehow affects your back?
That’s fascia.

Fascia forms one interconnected system, restriction in one area can pull, compensate, and create tension somewhere completely different.
Your body is less like separate parts, and more like one giant interconnected sweater. Pull one thread and the whole thing notices.

Can Fascia Hold Emotions?
This is where things get interesting.
While emotions aren’t literally “stored” like files in tissue, fascia is deeply connected to the nervous system. It contains an enormous number of sensory nerves and plays a major role in how we experience tension, stress, safety, and body awareness.
Many people notice emotional responses during bodywork or fascia release:
• unexpected tears
• laughter
• anger
• exhaustion
• relief
• feeling lighter afterward.

Why?
Because stress and emotions often create physical holding patterns in the body. We brace, clench, tighten, guard, and compress without realising it. Your body remembers patterns even when your mind has moved on.

Sometimes releasing fascia also releases the nervous system’s “protective grip.”
And yes, occasionally your hips may decide to process unresolved life events before your brain does.

Why Does Pain Sometimes Shift After Release?
This surprises a lot of people.
You come in with neck pain, then suddenly your hips ache, or your shoulder feels better but your back starts talking.
This doesn’t necessarily mean something went wrong.
When one area releases, the body reorganises. Compensation patterns change. Muscles and tissues that were “working overtime” may finally relax, while other areas wake up and reveal tension that was hidden underneath.

Think of it like pulling one knot out of a tangled necklace. The tension moves before everything settles.

The body loves balance, but sometimes it has to get a little messy on the way there.

Why Can Fascia Release Feel Sore (or Even Worse) Before Better?
A few reasons:
1. Your Nervous System Is Adjusting
Your body gets used to certain tension patterns. Even unhealthy patterns can feel “normal.”
When those patterns change, your nervous system may briefly react with soreness, fatigue, stiffness, or emotional sensitivity.
Your body is basically saying:
“Wait, we’re doing WHAT now?”
2. Hydration Matters
Fascia needs water to glide properly. After release work, hydration becomes even more important.
Yes, your therapist telling you to drink water is cliché, but they’re right.
3. Inflammation & Healing Response
Release work can stimulate circulation, movement, and tissue change. Mild soreness afterward can happen similarly to how you feel after a workout.
This is usually temporary.
4. Hidden Tension Gets Revealed
Sometimes pain was never truly “gone”, it was just overshadowed by louder tension somewhere else.
When the body quiets one area, another may finally become noticeable.
The body is layered and incredibly adaptive.

What Does a Fascia Release Feel Like?
Different for everyone.
People describe:
• warmth
• tingling
• emotional release
• lightness
• deep relaxation
• soreness.
• Uncovered physical and emotional patterns you are now noticing
• increased movement
• feeling “unstuck”
• spontaneous deep breaths
• weird noises from the stomach (the body is a fascinating creature)

Some people feel immediate relief, others notice gradual changes over days.

Healing isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it’s simply:
“Wow, I can turn my head without sounding like bubble wrap.”

The Bigger Picture
Fascia isn’t magic, it is incredibly important.
Modern research continues to explore how connective tissue influences movement, pain, posture, recovery, nervous system regulation, and overall wellbeing.
Taking care of fascia can involve:
• movement
• stretching
• strength work
• massage/bodywork
• breathwork
• hydration
• stress management
• sleep
• nervous system regulation
The body doesn’t work in isolated pieces, everything is connected.
And sometimes your tight shoulders aren’t just from bad posture, they’re from carrying the weight of being the responsible friend since 2014.
Your fascia knows.

FORWARD MOTION FREEDOM Massage that meets you where you are.

So, what makes Forward Motion Freedom a little different?

You get me.

My skills, my experience, my intuition, my compassion and my genuine care for you all brought together to create a session tailored to you, your body and what you need on the day.

You're not a collection of tight muscles, a dodgy shoulder or a back that's decided to stage a protest. You're a whole human being, with a body, a nervous system, a heart, a mind and a life that sometimes asks a LOT of you, and sometimes, you just need someone to take a little of that load off.

Perhaps you're looking for therapeutic massage.
Maybe you've overdone it in the garden (those weeds never seem to know when to stop), pushed a little too hard at the gym, slept in a position that should probably be illegal, or picked up something in a way your body would rather you hadn't, or took a comic but ouch tumble down you front steps.

Perhaps you're dealing with pain, tension, stiffness, discomfort or restricted movement and would like some thoughtful, targeted bodywork to support your body's comfort, function and recovery.

We'll explore what's going on and work together to find an approach that suits you.

Or perhaps relaxation is calling your name.

You don't need to have an injury, a sore muscle or a list of complaints to deserve a massage.

Maybe you're mentally exhausted, physically weary, emotionally stretched or simply craving a little space to breathe.

A chance to slow down. To soften. To let your shoulders drop from somewhere around your ears. To give your busy mind a break from its 47 open tabs.

A soothing massage can offer a welcome opportunity to settle, unwind and reconnect with yourself.

Then there's the beautiful importance of safe, therapeutic human touch.

In our busy, often disconnected world, we can forget just how meaningful caring, consensual touch can be.

Appropriate, soothing touch may help us feel calmer, more grounded and more connected to our bodies. It can provide an opportunity to pause, feel supported and experience a little space from the constant demands of everyday life.

Sometimes you don't need another strategy, another task or another person telling you what you should be doing.

Sometimes you just need to be cared for, without having to do anything in return. No performing. No explaining yourself perfectly. No need to be anything other than the human you are, right there on the massage table.Just warmth, respect, presence and a space where your comfort and boundaries matter.

At Forward Motion Freedom, your session is about YOU.

Whether you need targeted therapeutic work, deep relaxation, some gentle space to reconnect with yourself, or simply a little nurturing care, I'll draw on my training, experience and intuition to shape the session around your needs and preferences.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach here. We communicate, we check in, and we work within your comfort level.

No, you don't have to apologise for falling asleep, snoring, having a noisy tummy or discovering that your body has its own soundtrack. All perfectly human!

You don't have to wait until you're falling apart to give yourself some care. You can come because something hurts. You can come because you're tired. You can come because life has been a bit much lately. You can come because you want to move more freely. You can come because you simply enjoy massage.

Or you can come just because you can.
Your body deserves care before it starts sending increasingly dramatic complaint letters.
If this sounds like something you need, I'd love to welcome you to Forward Motion Freedom.
Get in touch to have a chat or arrange a session. Let's find the kind of massage that's right for you.

A little note before you book
Therapeutic massage sessions require an initial intake session, so we can discuss your health history, current concerns, goals and any relevant precautions. This helps me plan appropriate sessions for you.

Strictly relaxation-focused sessions are exempt from this initial therapeutic intake requirement, although I'll still ask the essential questions needed to support your comfort and safety.

Massage is a complementary therapy, not a substitute for medical assessment or treatment. It does not guarantee pain relief, injury recovery or changes to your nervous system. Treatment will be adapted to your individual needs, with your consent and comfort always a priority.

Forward Motion Freedom a little more ease, a little more connection, and a little more freedom to move through life.

FORWARD MOTION FREEDOM:
Body in Motion Sessions by Julie
Enhancing Wellness, Function, and Enjoyment of Life through Fascia Release & Spinal Wave Therapy

Introducing Body in Motion Sessions, a 1.5-hour to 2-hour fusion of Fascia Release and Spinal Wave Therapy that can offer more than just physical relief. This holistic approach is designed to restore balance, optimize bodily function, and rejuvenate your overall well-being.

By combining these powerful techniques, Julie’s Body in Motion Sessions offer a deeper, more comprehensive healing experience that may revitalize your body’s systems, enhance organ function, and support your life enjoyment in new, exciting way, when done with commitment and consistency

How Body in Motion Sessions Can Improve Your Wellness:

This unique blend isn’t just about relieving pain, it’s designed as a holistic reset that may support your body’s systems on multiple levels. Here’s how these therapies work together to transform your health:

• Pain Relief & Comfort: Fascia release eases muscle and joint pain, while spinal wave therapy frees tension along the spine. Together, they create a harmonious flow of movement, which may alleviate discomfort and restore the body’s natural range of motion.

• Increased Mobility & Flexibility: The fluid spinal movements in combination with the release of deep tissue restrictions enhance flexibility, making everyday movement easier and more fluid. This, in turn, supports healthier function across the body's systems, including digestion, circulation, and lymphatic flow.

• Optimized Posture & Alignment: By addressing both fascial tightness and spinal misalignments, the sessions encourage better posture, which helps reduce strain on muscles, joints, and organs. Better posture promotes optimal function, which can lead lead to improved breathing, digestion, and overall vitality.

• Stress Relief & Mental Clarity: The gentle, rhythmic motions of spinal wave therapy combined with the fascia release induce deep relaxation, alleviating both physical and mental tension. By calming the nervous system, this therapy fosters emotional balance, mental clarity, and a greater sense of peace.

• Enhanced Circulation & Vitality: Improved fascial and spinal mobility increases blood flow and oxygen supply to your organs, boosting recovery, enhancing energy levels, and supporting long-term health. Healthy circulation is vital for overall organ function, nutrient distribution, and toxin elimination.

• Injury Prevention & Recovery: Regular Body in Motion Sessions may help maintain flexibility, reduce muscle tension, and enhance spinal fluidity, which protects against injury and accelerates healing from past injuries. This holistic approach promotes a balanced body that can adapt and recover with more ease.

Fascia: The Key to Unlocking Body Freedom
Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, and organ in your body, creating a supportive web of structure and flexibility. When fascia becomes restricted due to stress, poor posture, injury, or inflammation, it can limit movement and affect organ function. Fascia release works to break up adhesions and restore fluidity, allowing your body to move more freely and efficiently.

Fascia Release: Restoring Balance & Flexibility
Fascia release is a therapeutic technique that uses gentle to moderate pressure or movement to release tension and break up deep fascial restrictions. By restoring fluidity to the fascia, this technique improves mobility, reduces pain, and supports the body’s overall balance. This process allows for better circulation, improved organ function, and an overall sense of ease throughout the body.

Spinal Wave Therapy: A Fluid Path to Wellness
Spinal Wave Therapy leverages the natural, undulating movements of the spine to release tension and promote fluidity in the entire body.

This technique may not only improve spinal mobility but also align and nourish the nervous system, leading to improved mental clarity, better organ function, and enhanced overall vitality. By stimulating the spine’s natural rhythm, Spinal Wave Therapy promotes deep relaxation and a sense of freedom in both body and mind.

What to Expect During Your Body Motion Session:
• Initial Assessment: For new clients Julie will begin by assessing your health history, for new and existing clients Julie will be identifying areas of tension and discussing any discomforts.

• Therapeutic Treatment: The session will start with fascia release techniques, using varied pressure to release tightness and restrictions. Next, the session will transition into spinal wave movements, allowing the body to flow with gentle, undulating motions to further release tension and enhance mobility.

• Relaxation: Most clients experience deep relaxation during the session, leaving them feeling lighter, freer, and more open in both body and mind.

Benefits You Might Experience:
• Fascia Unwinding Sensations: As the fascia loosens, you may feel tingling, warmth, or a “melting” sensation as energy flows more freely. This can continue post the session over several days

• Discomfort: Temporary discomfort, like post-workout soreness, is common as the body adjusts to the therapy. As fascia is continuous around the body, work in one area may release other areas that may feel unrelated. Occasionally, sharp, intense or mild sensations may occur, as nerves fire and readjust. These are temporary and reflect the body’s adjustment to the release of stored tension and move from being non or less functional to functional. Sometimes the healing process can feel uncomfortable or painful as the body adjusts and let's go to move towards wellbeing, healing and more optimal function.

Sometimes when we give the body permission to release, it does it in a significant way which can result in some discomfort, shifting pains, or soreness, or amazing ease. Each session can be completely different.

• Emotional Release: It is considered widely that fascia holds not only physical tension but also emotional energy. It’s normal to experience emotional shifts, such as tears, sadness, gratitude or joy, as the body releases stored emotions and achieves a deeper state of relaxation.

After Your Body Motion Session:
• Hydration: Drinking plenty of water supports the healing process.

• Gentle Movement: Like after a workout, soreness may occur, but gentle stretching and light movement will help further integrate the benefits.

• Follow-Up Care: Julie may recommend additional sessions or specific exercises to support your continued healing and maintain fluidity in your body.

The Journey to True Wellness & Freedom
Combining fascia release with spinal wave therapy creates a dynamic and powerful experience that addresses the root causes of tension and supports optimal function across all systems of the body. Together, these techniques unlock your body’s natural ability to heal, improve mobility, and restore energy. The result is not just pain relief, but a profound transformation of your overall well-being, leading to greater function, enjoyment of life, and the freedom to move through the world with more vitality and ease.

Ready to experience the freedom your body craves? Julie is here to guide you on this transformative journey toward holistic health and true body freedom!

A Space to Be Met Where You Are
Healing unfolds differently for everyone. Some feel a shift instantly; others notice change as it integrates over days or weeks.

Forward Motion Freedom was created from over 40 years in nursing and social welfare, and more than 23 years in complementary holistic practice. It is grounded in formal learning, clinical experience, trauma-informed understanding, and lived insight into how human beings truly heal.
This is not surface work, although there are moments when all that is needed is a gentle, relaxing massage. Forward Motion Freedom is structured, integrated, somatic, and whole-person care.
Julie brings a unique fusion of clinical wisdom, intuitive presence, and grounded compassion to every session. Her role is to walk alongside you, to witness, support, and gently (sometimes with a little bit of a shove when appropriate) guide your return to balance.
True healing is not fragmented. It requires reflection, deepens through connection, and moves you toward direction.
