DID YOU KNOW that many people living with scleroderma experience an invisible disability?

Scleroderma can affect the body in many ways, from the skin and joints to internal organs. Yet, many of these challenges aren’t visible to others.

This Invisible Disabilities Week, let’s remember that not all disabilities can be seen. By showing empathy, understanding and compassion, we can help create a world where everyone feels heard, understood and supported.

Let’s stand together to raise awareness of invisible disabilities and support everyone living with scleroderma!

Celebrating Ian: A story of love, strength, and resilience!

This National Carers Week (11-17 October), we’re recognising the incredible people who support loved ones living with scleroderma.

Meet Ian Craniaga from Botanic Ridge, who has been by his wife Barbara’s side for more than 16 years, caring for her through the challenges of scleroderma. He even stepped away from work to become her full-time carer!

Although this video was filmed a few years ago, Ian’s story remains a powerful reminder of the dedication, compassion and sacrifices that carers make for their loved ones every day.

Tag or name a carer you’d like to celebrate this National Carers Week. Let’s recognise the incredible people who make a difference in the lives of those living with scleroderma!

Scleroderma Australia has formally lodged its submission to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Disability Inquiry into the Access to and Affordability of Medical Specialists.

The submission highlights the barriers people living with scleroderma face in accessing timely, affordable, and coordinated specialist care.

Thanks to our community, more than 100 people with scleroderma, family members and carers shared their experiences through our survey. Your contributions have helped shape our submission and ensure our community’s voices are heard!

Our recommendations call for:
- Addressing rheumatology workforce shortages
- Reducing out-of-pocket costs
- Improving referral pathways
- Supporting multidisciplinary models of care
