It was a privilege to show Tanya around our town, introduce her to our centre, and connect with some of our key community stakeholders.

🩺 Professional Development: Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Diabetes Care

Today, we were pleased to host an informative presentation on Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) in Diabetes Care, exploring how this technology is transforming diabetes management and supporting better patient outcomes.

We were fortunate to have Annette Billiau, dietitian and credentialed diabetes educator from Highlands Nutrition share her extensive knowledge and experience in holistic care and diabetes management.

The session provided valuable insights into the latest developments in CGM technology, including:

🔹 Understanding the benefits of CGM and how it can fill information gaps that traditional finger-prick testing and HbA1c results may not capture.

🔹 Exploring practical applications of CGM in healthcare settings.

🔹 Gaining hands-on experience with using, wearing and interpreting CGM devices and their data.

🔹 Learning strategies to support patient engagement, informed clinical decision-making and diabetes self-management.

A big thank you to Annette for sharing her expertise and providing such a valuable learning opportunity for our healthcare professionals and students!

🐎 A Taste of Country Life at the Emerald 100! 🤠

Some of our students ventured out into the community last weekend to experience the Emerald 100 Races at Pioneer Park Racecourse!

Known as “the race that stops the Central Highlands,” the Emerald 100 is a major social and sporting highlight on the local calendar, bringing the community together for a fantastic day of country racing and festivities.

It was awesome to see our students getting out, connecting with the local community and enjoying the social events that make living and learning in a rural town such a great experience! 💚

Experiences like these are all part of embracing rural life and making the most of their time in Emerald.

Last week, members of our team and students on placement completed the DV-alert 2-day Foundations workshop.

This essential training provides participants with the knowledge and foundational skills to recognise, respond to, and appropriately refer people experiencing domestic and family violence.

Whether you’re a frontline worker, community volunteer, or someone who regularly interacts with the public, DV-alert provides valuable tools to help you identify signs of domestic and family violence, respond safely and appropriately, and connect people with the support they need.

We’re proud of our team and students for continuing to build their knowledge and confidence in this important area. 💜

Training and awareness are an important part of creating safer, more informed and supportive communities.

IPE Session & Monthly Mingle 🧩🍽️

Today’s IPE session featured the “Escape Room in a Briefcase”, an engaging activity designed to develop interdisciplinary communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and collaboration.

Students worked across disciplines to solve challenges, share ideas, communicate effectively, and draw on each other’s unique knowledge and skills. All students did exceptionally well and worked together wonderfully! It was fantastic to see such positive teamwork, enthusiasm, and support between disciplines.

We then finished the day with our monthly mingle luncheon, bringing staff and students together to relax, connect, and enjoy some time together outside of the usual placement environment.

It was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships, build connections across disciplines, and celebrate the vibrant student and staff community here in Emerald. A big thank you to everyone who participated and helped make today such a great success! 🌟
