$10,817.60, stitched together with LOVE 🧵❤️

Lifestyle Communities have perfected the pattern for quilting and fundraising! Their recent Quilt Exhibition and Fun Day was a huge success, raising an incredible $10,817.60 for Barwon Health’s Andrew Love Cancer Centre.

To every organiser, quilter, volunteer, baker and bidder, you’re absolute legends. Thank you for sewing so much kindness into our community.

Meet Kristian 🗽🏃‍♂️

Kristian is running the NYC Marathon this November, and every step is for Sam.

In 2022, his brother-in-law Sam was involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Life changed in an instant for Sam and the whole family.

Barwon Health's Rehabilitation team helped Sam through one of the hardest chapters of his life. Now Kristian is running 42.2km to give back.

“When it gets tough, I’ll be thinking of Sam and everything he’s overcome.”

👟 Greatest running memory: “I’m sure NYC Marathon will top the list!”

🍺 First thing post-race: A hot spa with a cold b**r

🗽 NYC bucket list: The marathon, of course!

On 12 October 1966, 'Geelong Hospital' was officially gazetted with the name that became part of so many local families’ lives.

In this week's Geelong Advertiser Legacy column, Zoe shares the story behind each of the hospital’s historical names, and the generous community members who have helped it grow from a small infirmary into a leading regional tertiary hospital.

A gift in your Will can help ensure future generations receive exceptional care, close to home.

Meet Joe 👋

On Sunday 1 November, Joe will be swapping his North Geelong office for the bright lights of New York City, running 42km in the New York City Marathon in support of Barwon Health Foundation.

Joe, from Harcourts North Geelong, has been a passionate supporter of the Foundation for many years. There isn’t anything Joe wouldn’t do for us. All we have to do is ask... and that now includes running a marathon in New York!

This will be Joe’s very first marathon, and what a place to start. He’s taking on one of the most famous races in the world, and he’s determined to make every step count for a cause close to home.

“I want to push myself beyond what I thought possible and turn every step into something meaningful for our local health services.”

Every cent Joe raises will support patients and families right here in our community. If you’d like to help him reach his goal, a donation only takes a minute, and every contribution, big or small, makes a difference. Joe is topping the leaderboard with his fundraising, currently having raised over $12,000.

Let’s go Joe! We know the whole Harcourts North Geelong team will be cheering you on! 🏃‍♂️💙

The messages of love keep rolling in for our Andrew Love Cancer Centre Chair Appeal, and we had to share a few.

Every donation, no matter the size, can carry a message for someone facing cancer, for the incredible team caring for them, or for whoever is on your mind.
Each one takes pride of place on our Wall of Love.

Your gift will also help us fund eight new treatment chairs for the Day Ward, where more than 200 local people spend hours, every week receiving treatment.

You can make a donation and add your message of love 👉 barwonhealthfoundation.org.au/andrewlovechairappeal

Barwon Women’s and Children’s Appeal Update 🏗️💜

Big progress is happening at Barwon Women’s and Children’s, with several major milestones recently reached.
✅ The building facades are complete.
✅ The new maternity drop-off zone is open.
✅ Link bridges now connect the new buildings to the existing hospital, making access easier for patients, families and staff.
✅ The iconic cranes, including Aunty Athalie and Kym, have officially finished their work on site.

Inside, teams are now busy with the fit-out, installing services, walls, ceilings and finishes throughout the new facilities. Major construction is on track for completion in 2028.

Funded by the Victorian Government, this once-in-a-generation development will transform healthcare for women, children and families across Geelong and our wider region.

And that's where our community comes in. 💜 Through the Barwon Women's and Children's Appeal, Barwon Health Foundation is raising $12 million to fund additional equipment, facilities and enhancements. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of our supporters, we've already raised over $10 million towards this goal! With just under $2 million still to raise, you can help us make an even greater difference for local families.

Art has a powerful way of telling stories that words sometimes can't. 🎨

Meet Rob Lymer, a Barwon Health home haemodialysis patient who has turned his experiences with dialysis into a collection of unique cartoon artworks.

Some are funny, others thought-provoking, and each offers a personal glimpse into the challenges, emotions and everyday realities of living with dialysis.

Now, Rob is using his creativity to give back, selling a selection of his artworks to raise funds for Barwon Health's Renal Services.

Love Rob's artwork? You can purchase a piece and support a wonderful cause by emailing [email protected].

Meet Hayley 🌆

On Sunday 1 November, Hayley will line up for the New York City Marathon, running 42km in support of Barwon Health Foundation.

Think Hayley looks familiar? That's because she has been a member of the Barwon Health Foundation team for 14 years working across administration, corporate partnerships and events.

When Hayley turned 30, she made herself a promise that one day she’d run the New York City Marathon. At the time it felt more like a dream than a real goal. Ten years later, as she celebrates her 40th birthday, that dream is about to become a reality.

Hayley has seen first hand the incredible impact Barwon Health has on our community, caring for us through some of life’s most important moments.

That’s why she’ll be leading our NYC team to support local patients and families, and ticking off a big bucket list item along the way.

Her greatest running memory? As a relatively new runner, Hayley has only recently started to truly enjoy it, and now every run has a little bit of joy attached. We have a feeling New York is going to bring plenty more.

And once she crosses that finish line? Eat! And probably cry with relief. We’ll have the tissues ready. Then it’s on to the NYC bucket list: a Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, eating her way through the city’s best restaurants and simply wandering the streets.

You can help Hayley go the distance: http://barwon-health-foundation.grassrootz.com/barwon-health-foundation-nyc-marathon-2026

Mental Health Month

A small painted rock with the words “pocket hug”, handed over by a stranger at a remembrance walk. It’s a reminder that small acts of kindness can carry more than we’ll ever know. 💙

This Mental Health Month, check in, listen and be kind. Together we thrive.
