We all have days when things feel a little harder than usual.

Sometimes talking to a friend, spending time with someone we trust or asking for extra support can make a difference.

This Mental Health Month, we're reminding our community that nobody has to manage everything on their own. Whether you're having a good day or a difficult one, your feelings matter, and you deserve to feel heard and supported.

And don't forget to check in on the people around you, too. A simple “How are you going?” can mean a lot. 💛

Looking for a little extra support in your everyday life?

At Geelong Disability Services, we're here to help you build confidence, stay connected with your community and work towards the things that matter to you. Get in touch with our friendly team to find out how we can support you!

**What's it like to work at Geelong Disability Services? 💜**

We asked Jacob, one of our wonderful Support Workers and Support Coordinators, to share what he enjoys most about being part of the GDS team!

Our team is made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences and strengths, but one thing they have in common is a genuine desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the people we support.

And we think hearing directly from our team says much more than we ever could! 💛

We're always keen to hear from caring, enthusiastic people who share our values and would love to be part of a friendly, supportive and inclusive team.

October is Mental Health Month. And it's a good reminder that looking after our mental health isn't always about making big changes.

For people living with disability, mental health and wellbeing can also be affected by barriers to accessing services, social isolation and the challenges of everyday life. That's why having choice, feeling heard and being connected to your community matters.

At Geelong Disability Services, we believe everyone deserves to feel respected, supported and included.

So this Mental Health Month, let's remember that we all have different needs, different experiences and different ways of looking after ourselves.

And if things are feeling difficult, you don't have to face them alone. Swipe through for a few gentle reminders this Mental Health Month.

Sometimes, it's the little things that mean the most. 💜

A helping hand. A familiar face. Someone who listens, remembers the little details or knows exactly how you like your cup of tea.

During National Carers Week, we're recognising the everyday moments of care that can so easily go unnoticed.

To the unpaid carers in our community who do these things every day, often while juggling so much else, we see you and we appreciate you. 💛

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸! 💜

Across Australia, more than 3 million unpaid carers provide care and support to family members and friends living with disability, chronic illness, mental health conditions or age-related needs.

And this week, we're recognising them.

The theme for 2026 is "Care for a carer: Making carers visible” - a reminder of just how much carers do, often quietly and without recognition.

From attending appointments and helping with everyday tasks to providing emotional support, advocating for loved ones and being there through the difficult days, caring can take many forms.

At Geelong Disability Services, we see the important role that families and carers play in the lives of the people we support.

And while so much attention is rightly given to the person receiving care, it's important to remember that carers need care and support too.

So, to the carers in our GDS community and across Australia, thank you for everything you do.

This week, let's make an extra effort to check in with a carer, offer a helping hand or simply let them know they're appreciated. Because carers deserve to be seen, heard and supported too. 💜

Sometimes good support is practical. Sometimes it’s getting out into the community, trying something new, or having someone there when things feel a bit harder.

And sometimes it’s simply knowing there are people in your corner. At Geelong Disability Services, we want our clients to feel heard, respected and supported to live life in the way that works for them. 💛
