New Standards. Where do you start?

Before you open a blank document and start rewriting everything, take stock of what your practice already does well.

Our new blog breaks the 6th edition Standards preparation into manageable steps - understanding the changes, involving your team and identifying what needs attention.

Read more about how you can start preparing now:

Whenever the Standards change, practices understandably ask what they need to do differently. Which requirements have changed? What evidence will be needed? How will the team find time to prepare? Those questions deserve clear answers. But as we prepare for the 6th edition, we should also ask what t...

Fee-free accreditation. Fairer access. A different way forward.

QPA proposes changing how general practice accreditation is funded.

Practices would no longer pay accreditation agencies directly. Instead, accreditation would be government-funded through an independent pricing mechanism.

The aim? Fairer access for practices of every size and location, with greater consistency and accountability in assessments.

Support this change? Add your name and help show decision-makers that the proposal deserves consideration.

The petition will close on 31 October 2026. Show your support now before it's too late!

QPA is proposing that general practices no longer pay directly for accreditation.

What does it mean for your practice?

1. No fee accreditation - practices would no longer have to fund accreditation directly from their own limited resources

2. Your choice remains - Practices would continue to choose their approved accreditation provider

3. Accreditation stays independent - An accreditation would continue to be independent and delivered by approved accreditation agencies.

Preparing for the 6th edition Standards? Practical support starts here!

The 6th edition Standards brings changes for every general practice - but you don't need to tackle everything at once. QPA is already developing practical support to help practices understand what's changing, what it means for your practice and what you can start doing now.

Our latest article brings together some of the support already available for our QPA practices and explains what you can expect from us as implementation approaches.

In response to a recent webinar poll, more than 87% of respondents supported QPA's proposal to remove the direct cost of accreditation to practices. It follows QPA's recent discussion paper proposing a change to the way general practice accreditation is funded.

Given the increased complexities of the new 6th Standards and to avoid the extra cost burden on practices, we need your support. QPA is proposing that general practices no longer pay directly for accreditation, instead, accreditation would be funded through the Medicare budget and paid directly to the agency.

What it means for your practice:
1. No fee accreditation - Practices would no longer have to fund accreditation directly from their own limited resources.
2. Your choice remains - Practices would continue to choose their approved accreditation provider.
3. Accreditation stays independent - An accreditation would continue to be independent and delivered by approved accreditation agencies.

Today is World Patient Safety Day. An official World Health Organisation global public health day observed to raise global awareness of patient safety, engage key stakeholders and encourage action to reduce avoidable harm in health care.

This year's theme is 'Safe care for noncommunicable diseases' under the slogan 'Safe care for life'. This year's theme highlights safety challenges for chronic conditions like diabetes, cancer, hypertension and heart disease that require continuous care over long periods.

The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) provides resources to help local clinics and communities amplify patient voices, available here 👇

World Patient Safety Day, celebrated on 17 September each year, is a World Health Organization (WHO) global initiative focused on promoting safer health care practices.
