We can spend years learning, studying, developing our skills and becoming experts in what we do. We can understand all the theories, have all the qualifications and know exactly what to say or do.
I wonder whether we place so much importance on what we know that we forget the significance and sacredness of how we show up for another person.
Underneath our professions, beliefs, experiences and all the labels we give ourselves, we are simply human beings trying to navigate life.
And every interaction we have is an opportunity to meet another person with kindness, curiosity, compassion and respect. We don’t have to agree with someone to understand them. We don’t have to share their beliefs to respect them. And we certainly don’t need to have all the answers to make someone feel heard, valued or understood.
I think there’s something quite beautiful about remembering that, beyond everything else, it’s simply one soul meeting another in this crazy, messy, fumbly place we call earth.
