🌿 Today is World Menopause Day
This year’s theme is Chronic Pain at Midlife

Joint and muscle pain, headaches and other ongoing pain can affect sleep, movement, work and wellbeing during the menopause transition.

Hormonal changes may play a part, but other causes can contribute too.

At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we give you time to discuss your concerns, review your health and explore care options together.

We’ve included the International Menopause Society’s World Menopause Day infographic, see the next image for information about chronic pain at midlife, what may help and questions to discuss with your healthcare provider.

Menopause is about more than hot flushes.

Oestrogen plays an important role in many areas of our health, and the changes that occur during menopause can have effects beyond the symptoms we experience day to day.

Did you know?

Bone health: Declining oestrogen levels contribute to bone loss after menopause. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) can help maintain bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis-related fractures.

Vaginal and urinary health: Hormonal changes can affect vaginal tissues, bladder comfort and urinary symptoms. Vaginal oestrogen can be an effective treatment, even for women who do not need systemic MHT.

Heart health: Cardiovascular risk changes as we age and transition through menopause. MHT has different cardiovascular risk profiles depending on the individual and the type of treatment, although it is not currently recommended solely to prevent heart disease.

MHT isn't right for everyone, but understanding the potential benefits and risks can help women make informed decisions about their health.

At the Bungree Women's Perimenopause and Menopause Wellbeing Clinic, we provide individualised assessments, evidence-based treatment options and shared decision-making.

Our clinic welcomes both Aboriginal and

Torres Strait Islander women and non-Indigenous women.

Perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause - what’s the difference?

These terms describe different parts of the menopause journey. Everyone’s experience is different, and symptoms don’t follow a fixed timetable.

Changes can begin during perimenopause and continue after menopause. Some symptoms may ease over time, while others, including bladder and intimate health concerns, may need ongoing care.

You don’t have to wait for symptoms to pass on their own. Safe treatment options, including MHT when suitable, can help manage symptoms.

At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we’ll listen to your concerns, review your health and work with you to find options that suit your needs and preferences.

What is MHT or HRT?

You may have heard both names. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also called hormone replacement therapy (HRT), replaces some of the hormones which fluctuate during perimenopause and decline after menopause. It can help relieve hot flushes, night sweats and some bladder and intimate health symptoms. As symptoms settle, sleep may also improve.

MHT comes in different forms, including patches, gels and tablets. Whether MHT is suitable for you depends on your symptoms, medical history and preferences. Other treatments are available if MHT isn’t suitable or you prefer a different approach.

At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we give you time to discuss the benefits, risks and options available. To book, call 0492 857 644 or book online https://www.hotdoc.com.au/medical-centres/kanwal-NSW-2259/bungree-health-service/doctors/mrs-kylie-le-strande-1

Thinking about booking, but unsure what to expect?

At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we give you time to talk about what’s happening for you, in a private and supportive space.

Before your appointment, you’ll complete the symptom check-in we shared in an earlier post, giving us a starting point to understand how you’re feeling.

You’ll then have a yarn with Miley, our Aboriginal Health Practitioner, who will check your blood pressure and other health measurements.

Next, you’ll see Kylie, our Nurse Practitioner, to discuss your concerns, review your health and explore treatment and support options.

Together, we’ll agree on a plan that suits your health, needs and preferences. This may include a trial of treatment, with follow-up to see how you’re feeling and make adjustments if needed.

What is menopause?

Menopause is the final menstrual period. We usually know it has happened after 12 months without a period. The lead-up, called perimenopause, can bring changes well before then.

Jean Hailes for Women’s Health has created “Menopause – ‘the change’”, a booklet that explains what happens during menopause, symptoms you might notice, and ways to look after your health.

Read the free booklet here:https://www.jeanhailes.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/menopause-the-change-dl_TGD-1.pdf

In your 40s and noticing changes? It could be perimenopause.

Perimenopause is the transition leading up to your final period. It often begins in your 40s, and you may notice changes while you’re still having periods.

If symptoms are affecting your day-to-day life, you don’t have to wait until your periods stop to ask for help. At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we can listen to your concerns, review your health and discuss options that suit you.

To make an appointment, call 0492 857 644

You can read more about perimenopause through the Jean Hailes resource linked in the comments.

Could your symptoms be related to perimenopause or menopause?

Hot flushes are only one part of the picture, and not everyone experiences them. Changes in sleep, mood, concentration, periods, bladder or vaginal health, and joint or muscle comfort can also be related to the hormonal changes of perimenopause and menopause.

Our symptom check-in is a starting point. Everyone’s experience is different, and you may notice other changes that aren’t listed here.

At Bungree’s Women’s Peri/Menopause Wellbeing Hub, we give you time to discuss your concerns, review your health and consider options that suit you.
