Things I do as a dietitian that may shock you… 👀🥑
Spoiler: I don’t follow every nutrition trend on TikTok, and I definitely don’t eat perfectly.
Here are a few things I do as a dietitian that might surprise you 👇🏼
🧈 I cook with olive oil AND butter.
I choose which fat to use based on what I’m cooking, not whichever one is trending on TikTok this week.
🍫 I eat ultra-processed foods sometimes.
Because nutrition exists on a spectrum. One packaged snack isn't going to cancel out all the other nourishing things I eat. Your overall pattern matters far more than one food.
🥛 I eat full-fat dairy.
I enjoy the taste, and full-fat dairy can absolutely fit into a balanced diet. I don't want all the fat soluble nutrients being washed out when the fat is stripped away. I don't believe you need to choose low-fat everything to be healthy.
🦖 Sometimes, I feed my kids chicken nuggets.
When I'm eating vindaloo and can't exactly serve it to the kids, dinosaur nuggets might make an appearance. I'm a dietitian, not a short-order chef. 😂
🍌 I eat fruit without adding protein or fat.
Sometimes I just want a banana. I don't need to turn every snack into a perfectly balanced meal with Greek yoghurt, nut butter and chia seeds to prevent a glucose spike.
☕ I drink coffee before I've eaten.
If you tolerate it well, you don't need to fear that you've automatically “wrecked your cortisol” before 8 am. Your body is not that fragile.
✨ The biggest takeaway?
You don't need to optimise every meal, fear entire food groups or follow every new rule the internet comes up with.

Save this for the next time 'skinnytok' makes you question everything you eat and follow for evidence-based nutrition without the unnecessary rules. 🫶🏼
