A passionate team of Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists offering in clinic and mobile services for children and young people 0-18 years.

Local services in West Gippsland. Serving children and families Australia wide through telehealth. Connecting Dots for Kids is a clinic based and mobile speech pathology practice based in Longwarry. We have a growing team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and therapy assistants with a wide variety of experience to support children with diverse needs. We work individually with children, with their parents, and with early childhood professionals to accelerate communication skills development in order for them to have more rewarding relationships and fulfilling lives. We also run both term and school holiday group programs for children of different ages and abilities.

AAC is part of everyday life. It helps children join in at home, at school and during play.

This year’s AAC Awareness Month theme is “AAC in Everyday Life: Today, Tomorrow, and Beyond.”
One question families often ask is whether AAC will stop their child from learning to speak. It won’t. Gestures, picture boards and speech-generating devices give children more ways to communicate while their speech develops.

The goal is to help every child share their thoughts, choices and personality in a way that works for them.

🎥 SCHOOL HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS🎥

What a school holiday program!❤️

From creating mini movies and solving mysteries, to getting messy, exploring outdoors and soaking up some VERY welcome sunshine, our Spring School Holiday Groups were packed with fun!

Stop Motion brought some incredible imaginations to life, with our young creators planning, building, filming and producing their very own mini movies.

Outdoor Explorers made the most of our awesome outdoor space, creating, exploring, building and getting amongst nature.

Junior Scavenger Academy put their detective skills to the test with clues, challenges, mysteries and plenty of problem solving along the way.

And our littlest creators at Messy Makers did exactly what the name promised... they got MESSY!
One of our favourite parts was being able to spend so much time outside in our outdoor space, enjoying the sunshine, getting creative and learning through play.

Behind all the fun, our groups are also a wonderful opportunity to practise communication, social skills, teamwork, problem solving, fine motor skills, confidence and independence... without it feeling like "work".

A HUGE thank you to all the amazing kids who joined us these holidays. You brought the ideas, the creativity, the laughs and, in some cases, a spectacular amount of mess.

❤️❤️ CDFK TEAM DAY❤️❤️

Last week we swapped therapy sessions for learning, teamwork, a little friendly competition... and a LOT of laughs!🤣

We kicked off the day by coming back to the heart of CDFK, revisiting our values, mission and purpose, and reflecting on what drives us as a team and the kind of support we want to provide to our families.
Then it was time to get our brains working as we took a deep dive into outcome measures, exploring the different options available and which ones are going to be the most meaningful and useful for the children and families we work with.

After all that thinking, lunch was very much required! We headed to the Drouin Family Hotel for a delicious lunch before things got slightly less professional...😅

The team split into groups for an afternoon of friendly competition, ridiculous challenges, questionable strategies and some VERY competitive personalities making themselves known.

We finished the day with our Team Photo Challenge, and safe to say, the team absolutely understood the assignment. Some of the photos that came out of this challenge deserve to be framed... others probably deserve to never see the light of day again.

A day full of learning, connection, teamwork and plenty of laughs with this wonderful bunch.
And yes... apparently even professional development can get competitive at CDFK.

October is AAC Awareness Month

AAC stands for augmentative and alternative communication. It can include gestures, pictures, communication boards and speech-generating devices. Each gives someone another way to share what they think, feel, need or want to say.

At Connecting Dots for Kids, we believe every child deserves to be heard, in the way that works for them. This month, we’re celebrating all the ways children communicate.

Lights, camera, stop motion!

Our Imagine. Create. Animate. group did a fantastic job making their own mini films during last week’s school holiday program. From dreaming up ideas to moving their characters frame by frame, they put so much creativity and patience into their work.
We loved seeing each film come together, and we’re so proud of what the group created. Here’s a look at their work!

Clinic Closure Reminder

Connecting Dots for Kids will be closed on Wednesday 30 September while our team comes together for a full day of professional development.

We will be spending the day learning, reflecting, planning and building our skills so we can continue providing the best possible support to our children and families.

Where therapy looks suspiciously like game night... Introducing Game Masters!
Game Masters is our brand-new Term 4 social group for children aged 9 to 12 years, supported by both an Occupational Therapist and Speech Pathologist.

Through fun and engaging board games, children will have opportunities to practise:
✨ Conversation and communication
✨ Turn-taking, patience and flexibility
✨ Teamwork and cooperation
✨ Managing emotions when things do not go to plan
✨ Problem-solving and strategic thinking
✨ Building confidence in a social group

Because sometimes the best learning happens when everyone is busy plotting their next move!
