I take a Diabetes Alert Dog everywhere with me. To Alert me to Blood Glucose lows/highs faster than the modern technology connected to my insulin pump. Meaning I can eat if low or have insulin if trending high. Meaning better management.
Here Cork the Murray River Retriever is keeping a close watch on me yesterday.

I have cancelled work for the hot days over 34° Celcius as it's a welfare issue for humans and dogs. Please keep as cool as possible and do sniffy type activities if your dog is acting frustrated. Personally I tend to do extensive grooming of my 4 dogs on these hot days. Incorporating a shower; comb out; dremmeling claws; paw; ear and teeth checks.

The struggle to have the NDIS cater for individual needs is ongoing. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18tdAdDrUu/

Stevie Howson, 34, from Armidale, has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and late-diagnosed autism, but the NDIA issued a plan templated for autism: speech and behavioural funds, no wheelchair or physio. Despite OT and doctors backing mobility needs, the agency ignored reports and a 2024 fix recommendation, forcing a three-year appeal that left him deeply suicidal and cost taxpayers. NDIA finally settled, adding $100k; it denies algorithmic planning and promises simpler process soon.

ID Mr Howson sits in a wheelchair in a backyard patio beside raised planter boxes, with a black dog in the foreground. Large white text over the image reads: “An NDIS bungle nearly cost young Aussie Stevie Howson his life.”

Despite assistance dog Max wearing a vest and Garth Murray carrying his accreditation, they still faced illegal discrimination on a round-Australia charity walk, with one publican even calling the police on them.
