I should be doing this. I should be doing that. I should be doing MORE.
Does that little word SHOULD sound familiar?
Yesterday I caught myself scrolling social media, seeing what other business owners were doing, posting, sharing their availability, putting themselves out there.
And there she was. My inner mean girl, she reared her ugly head again.
Why aren’t you doing that? You should be doing that too!
But hang on a minute.
WHO SAYS?
I caught her, questioned her and then went about my day.
But this morning, there she was again! That old conditioning voicing its opinion again.
That old belief that if I’m not constantly doing, constantly hustling, then somehow I’m not successful.
Cue incoming tears!
Some were old baggage, that part of me that still questions my success. But others were tears of gratitude.
Because I’m actually living the life I’ve worked towards creating. I’m happier, I have more freedom, and I feel more like myself than ever.
THIS is true success to me.
But what a roller coaster of emotions I went on!
And I just had to sit with them, and allow myself to feel them. All of them, guilt, shame, gratitude, joy
and when the emotions settled, there was clarity.
Yeah, nah. We’re not going back to that life.
There was a time, I wouldn’t have even recognised that inner chatter. I would’ve just listened and pushed myself to do more.
Now I hear her in real time. I sit with her, question her and recognise that I have a choice.
Because awareness gives us choice.
And this is exactly the kind of inner work we explore in my new offering, The Rising – Awaken the Truth Within.
There are two ways to experience it: a self-paced online journey for those who enjoy exploring independently, or a more personalised 1:1 journey for those wanting deeper exploration, guidance and support along the way.
Both are about recognising the beliefs, patterns and expectations we’ve carried, reconnecting with ourselves and making choices that feel more authentic to who we are.
So next time you catch yourself saying “I SHOULD”, stop and ask yourself:
WHO SAYS YOU SHOULD?
Is it something you genuinely want, or have you picked up someone else’s expectations?
Because there’s a big energetic difference between saying
I SHOULD.
And
I WANT TO or I GET TO.
