Our team at Slade Point Medical Centre dressed in pink today to show our support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 🌸

October is an important reminder to raise awareness, encourage early detection and show support for everyone affected by breast cancer.

Today, we wear pink to honour those we’ve lost, celebrate the survivors and stand alongside those currently fighting. πŸ’•

πŸ’— Together, let’s spread awareness and remind our loved ones of the importance of breast health and regular screening.

πŸŽ€ October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! πŸ’—

This month is an important reminder to raise awareness about breast cancer, encourage early detection and support those affected by the disease.

Breast cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers among Australian women.

πŸ’• Know your breasts and be aware of any changes, including:

🌸 A new lump or thickening in the breast or underarm
🌸 Changes in breast size or shape
🌸 Skin dimpling, redness or other unusual changes
🌸 Ni**le changes or unusual discharge
🌸 Persistent or unexplained breast pain

πŸ’— Early detection matters!

In Queensland, BreastScreen Queensland provides free breast screening every 2 years for eligible women aged 40 and over, with women aged 50–74 particularly encouraged to attend.

If you notice any unusual breast changes, don’t wait for your next screening appointment. Book an appointment with your GP.

πŸŽ€ This October, let’s spread awareness, encourage conversations and remind our loved ones to prioritise their breast health.

πŸ’™ A Friendly Reminder to Our Patients

We are currently experiencing a very busy period, and appointment availability is filling quickly.

πŸ“… Please book your appointments as far in advance as possible to help secure a time that suits you. While our doctors and staff always do their best to keep appointments running on time, longer wait times may occasionally occur, and we appreciate your patience and understanding.

We also kindly ask that our reception and clinical staff are always treated with kindness and respect. Our team works hard to assist every patient and provide the best possible care, even during our busiest times.

We understand that waiting or being unable to secure your preferred appointment can be frustrating, but abusive, aggressive or disrespectful behaviour towards our staff is not acceptable.

πŸ’™ A little kindness goes a long way.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support of our team at Slade Point Medical Centre.

β˜€οΈ Summer is just around the corner! 🌴

With the warmer Queensland weather on its way, now is a great time to get ready for a happy and healthy summer.

πŸ’§ Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water, especially when outdoors.
🧴 Be sun safe – use SPF50+ sunscreen, wear a hat and seek shade.
πŸ”Ž Check your skin – keep an eye on any new or changing spots, moles or freckles.
🦟 Protect against mozzies – use insect repellent and cover up when needed.
πŸƒ Take care in the heat – avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day and watch for signs of heat-related illness.
πŸ’Š Stay on top of your health – make sure prescriptions and regular check-ups are up to date before the busy holiday period.

If you have any health concerns or you’re due for a check-up, book an appointment with one of our GPs.

β˜€οΈ Stay safe, stay cool and enjoy the warmer weather!

πŸ’› R U OK?

Today is R U OK? Day, a reminder that a simple conversation can make a difference.

You don’t need to be an expert to check in with someone. If you notice a friend, family member, colleague or loved one doesn’t seem themselves, take the time to ask:

πŸ’¬ β€œAre you OK?”

Listen without judgement, encourage them to talk, and continue to check in. Sometimes knowing someone genuinely cares can mean more than we realise.

And remember – you don’t have to wait until someone is struggling to ask the question.

If you’re finding things difficult yourself, reaching out to someone you trust or speaking with your GP can be a good place to start.

πŸ’› Ask R U OK? Any day

β˜€οΈ Spring is here – time to think about sun safety!

As we come out of winter and start spending more time outdoors, it’s a great time to get back into good sun-safe habits and check your skin.

🧴 Remember to:
β€’ Slip on protective clothing
β€’ Slop on SPF50+ sunscreen
β€’ Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
β€’ Seek shade when possible
β€’ Slide on sunglasses

πŸ”Ž Know your skin. Keep an eye out for new spots or changes in existing moles and freckles, including changes in size, shape or colour, or spots that itch, bleed or don’t heal.

Living in Queensland means sun protection is important all year round, not just during summer.

If you’ve noticed a spot you’re concerned about or you’re due for a skin check, book an appointment with Dr Khan or Dr McKenzie.

🌞 Enjoy the warmer weather – and look after the skin you’re in!
