The Lychee has an uplifting sweetness and an aroma that suggests jasmine, lavender and rose.
Peel it's strawberry-red, bumpy leathery skin and its smooth milky fruit is as juicy as it is delicious.
In Chinese Medicine, lychees are recommended for those with weak digestion, deficiency of blood, fatigue, infertility, irritability and insomnia.
Lychee assists the spleen, stomach and liver meridians. They nourish the blood, calm the spirit, soothe the liver and regulate the energy.
For women with iron deficiency and or pre menstrual symptoms of irritability, depression and or coupled with scanty blood, infertility or dizziness and insomnia try this tip:
1. Dehydrate or naturally sun dry Lychees (peeled)
2. Make a batch of chicken broth from a free range organic chicken frame.
Slow cook the chicken bones with spring water and veges like sweet potato, celery, onion, garlic and any others to your taste.
# Add 7 - 10 dried lychee at the beggining of the broth.
Season with salt and pepper.
# if you don't have time or inclination to dry the litchis you can use fresh ones.
Women can make and eat this at any time of the month however it is critical to eat bone broth with veges at the onset of the monthly bleed. For example, consume a small bowl of this broth each day from day 1 to day 7 of the cycle.
This replenishes the blood and hormonal reserves for the following monthly menstrual cycle.
3. Portion off the rest of the drained broth into meal size containers and freeze to eat later.
Contraindications:
Eat in moderation.
Over consumption of lychees can overheat the body. This could manifest as feverish sensation or thirst or in extreme case induce the onset of skin rashes especially in young children.
