💜 An important message to our AffinitySC clients, families and community
We know there has been a lot of discussion recently about the changes proposed under the NDIS Amendment (Securing the NDIS for Future Generations) Bill 2026, and we understand that this is creating very real worry, uncertainty and anxiety for some participants and their families.
While the Bill has passed Parliament, it is not yet law, and the changes are not currently in effect. There are still important details to be clarified about how the changes will be implemented, when they will commence and exactly who may be affected.
The Bill includes a number of significant changes to the way the NDIS may operate in the future.
Some of these changes relate to how a person’s functional capacity and eligibility are assessed, how supports are linked to the impairments for which a person is eligible for the NDIS, the circumstances in which plan reassessments can occur, and how decisions are made about what supports are considered reasonable and necessary.
There are also measures that may affect funding for certain groups of supports. We recognise that the discussion around social and community participation supports in particular may be concerning for people who rely on these supports to maintain independence, relationships, community connection and quality of life.
At AffinitySC, we don’t want to add to people’s anxiety by speculating or providing information before we understand exactly how the new arrangements will work in practice.
We are actively gathering information and following developments so that we can understand when the changes will take effect, how they will be implemented, who may be affected and what options and safeguards will be available to participants.
We also want our clients and families to know this:
💜 You are not facing this uncertainty alone.
We understand how stressful it can be when changes are announced that may affect the supports you or someone you care for relies upon. Behind every NDIS plan is a person, a family, goals, relationships, routines and often years of work building greater independence and quality of life.
If you are worried about what you are hearing, please feel welcome to speak with us. We may not have every answer yet, but we are more than happy to listen to your concerns and talk through the information that is currently available.
As further details become available, we will continue to keep our AffinitySC community informed.
Most importantly, once we have all the facts and understand how the changes apply to individual participants, we will support our clients in every way reasonably available to us to advocate for their needs, understand their options and work towards ensuring they continue to receive the supports they need.
For now, we encourage everyone not to make decisions based on headlines or speculation. We will continue gathering reliable information and will share what we know as the implementation of these changes becomes clearer.
We will keep learning, keep asking questions and, above all, keep standing alongside the people and families we support. 💜
