Three ages. One pattern.

A school-age child who's "so easy" in class. A teenager who tells everyone "I'm fine". An adult who says "yes, got it" at work and at every appointment.

Different stages, same shape: working hard to keep up out there, then running out of reserves somewhere safe. Clinically, we see this across the whole lifespan in 22q. It's easy to miss, because the public half looks so good.

Which of these do you recognise in your family?

If this sounds familiar, our webinar Masking and Hidden Difficulties goes further into what to do with what you're seeing. Link in comments.

The calls. The forms. The appointments. The hours nobody counts.

It's Carers Week in Australia this week. Many parents of someone with 22q don't think of themselves as carers. You're just the parent.

But look at an ordinary week. The specialist follow-up. The form that needs a letter from the school. The call to chase a referral. The support plan review. The email that took an hour to word just right.

None of it shows up on the family calendar. All of it takes time, energy, and a part of your mind that never fully switches off. And for many families, it doesn't stop at eighteen.

This week, it's worth noticing. Not to add it up. Just to see it.

What's one job you do that nobody else sees?

Fine at school. Falls apart at home. Both are true.

So many parents tell us the same thing. The teacher says the day went well. Then the car door closes, and everything comes undone.

It's natural to wonder which version is the real one. Clinically, we see this pattern again and again in 22q: a child working hard all day to keep up, follow along and seem okay. Home is where that effort finally gets to stop.

The meltdown after pickup doesn't mean the school is wrong, or that you are. It's often the cost of holding it together.

Does your child have a harder time after school than during it?

We have a new on-demand webinar available now - all you need to know about 22q and Sleep.

This weekend, join our live Q&A to ask questions and share experiences.

You don't need to be there for the live Q&A to learn about sleep. The on-demand recording is yours to keep, with subtitles in 12 languages (on request), so it fits around your week rather than the other way round.

Pick a time that works for you (please always double-check the time):

Dr Linda Campbell is hosting in Sydney at 12:00 PM AEDT (UTC+11) on Sunday the 11/10. Join us from Singapore at 9 AM, Perth at 9 AM, or Auckland at 2 AM, or from the USA on Saturday evening (San Diego 6 PM, Denver 7 PM or New York 9 PM) or any other place as long as the time works for you.

Dr Sasja Duijff is hosting in Amsterdam at 5:00 PM CEST (UTC+2) on Sunday, 11/10. Join us from London at 4PM, New York at 11 AM, Denver at 9 AM, and San Diego at 8 AM or any other place as long as the time works for you.

We'd love to see you there, live or later.

The third time you've gone back into that room tonight. You're not frustrated with her. You're just tired in a way that sleep itself won't fix, because you're the one managing the getting there.

Bedtime battles in 22q are rarely about defiance. They're often anxiety, sensory discomfort, or a nervous system that hasn't downshifted yet, showing up at the one point in the day when everyone's capacity is lowest.

If this is familiar, Better Sleep, Better Days is available now on-demand. Subtitles in 12 languages are available on request.

You can also join us live this Sunday for a Q&A. See link in the comments.

Bedtime difficulties don't disappear with age. They just stop being asked about.

For adults with 22q, the same things that disrupt a child's sleep tend to persist: anxiety that gets louder once the day's noise stops, sensory sensitivity to light or sound, a nervous system that hasn't downshifted from the day. "Just go to bed earlier" has never addressed any of that, at seven or at thirty-seven.

Better Sleep, Better Days looks at what's underneath across the full lifespan, not just childhood.

On-demand webinar available now, with subtitles in 12 languages available on request. See link in the comment sections.

A bad night doesn't stay at bedtime. It shows up the next day in mood, in learning, in how much a child can hold before they tip.

In 22q, sleep and daytime functioning run in both directions. Poor sleep affects thinking and emotional regulation, and the anxiety or sensory load that's already part of 22q can make settling harder in the first place. One feeds the other.

Our webinar Better Sleep, Better Days goes into what's actually driving this and what helps, across childhood through to adulthood. The on-demand webinar is available now. Subtitles in 12 languages, upon request. Join Live this Sunday, 11 October, for a Q&A with Linda and Sasja! Ask questions and share experiences.

Some days, the same task takes so much more out of them, and it's not about trying harder.

Executive functioning covers the mental skills behind planning, holding information in mind, switching between ideas and managing impulses. In 22q, working memory and processing speed are commonly affected, even when other skills are strong, which means a multi-step instruction or a quick decision can take real effort that doesn't always show.

A few things add extra load on top of this. Tiredness is one of them, not the only one.

Swipe through for what this can look like day to day.
