Over the weekend, Alvina attended a course on transitional movements in babies and infants from birth to 18 months. 🚼
Alvina learnt tips and tricks to assist babies and infants as they develop gross motor skills including:
- Head and neck control in newborns
- Initiation of knees up when lying on their back
- Trunk control and rolling
- Moving from tummy or back to seated
- Use of spinal muscles and crossing the midline in seated
- Moving from seated to all fours/ hands and knees position
- Pulling to stand on both sides
- Balance for walking
These gross motor milestones were discussed through the lens of neurodevelopment and emerging and integrating primitive reflexes, as well useful treatment techniques to assist these skills. 👶🏻
