More fabulous work from Dr Lucy Gately and the BRAIN team at EANO 2026! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

๐Ÿ”Ž MGMT is a predictive biomarker in glioblastoma. However, significant within-group heterogeneity remained. Additional factors beyond MGMT methylation continue to shape survival outcomes.

๐Ÿ”Ž BEACON is a self-referral, population accessible registry, collecting patient-reported outcomes. Preliminary findings demonstrate favourable usability and user-satisfaction with BEACON. Now the team is looking forward to focus on implementation and leveraging BEACON for translational and clinical research.

๐Ÿ”Ž The BRAIN Registry has been involved in the development of the Real-World Evidence Glioma Councilโ€™s suggested structure of categories in registry development, sharing expertise to guide the next generation of lower grade glioma registries.

brain cancer research on show at COGNO ASM 2026 last month, presented by Dr Lucy Gately ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ” Awarded the BTAA Lynette Williams Award for supportive care research! Initial findings from the BEACON registry are demonstrating the ability of the registry to systematically capture patient experience and underscores the variable supportive care needs of people living with brain cancer. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ”The BRAIN registry continues to grow, with more than 10,000 participants. The registry has supported 25 different projects to date, leveraging its connections to BioBrain and BEACON.

We are also thrilled to share that Dr Lucy Gately has been appointed as the Deputy Chair for the COGNO network. Alongside COGNO Chair Prof. Hui Gan, she will work to guide COGNOโ€™s next chapter.

Please join us in congratulating Dr Gately! ๐ŸŒŸ

Lots of amazing work was on show at ANZUP ASM 2026 (28-30 June), showing off some of the GU registries and their real-world data in action!

Awarded Best Poster were:

๐ŸŒŸBLADDA registry: Dr Andrisha Inderjeeth presented on first-line treatment with Avelumab for metastatic urothelial bladder cancer and barriers limiting uptake of new 1L therapies

๐ŸŒŸePAD registry: Dr Anthony Uccellini discussed real-world patterns of molecular testing in Australian patients with metastatic CRPC.

๐ŸŒŸePAD registry: Dr Tivya Kulasegaran explored re-thinking treatment intensity, comparing real-world PSA kinetics with ARPI doublet versus docetaxel triplet in metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer

๐ŸŒŸKRAB registry: In patients with metastatic clear cell renal call carcinoma, Dr Faria Arefinโ€™s findings suggest treatment with ipilimumab and nivolumab leads to durable response in ~25% of patients.

A new publication showcasing the BRAIN Registry being put to great use ๐ŸŒŸ

Dr Emma Sanderson utilised the BRAIN Registry to explore the use of salvage therapies in patients with glioblastoma. The retrospective analysis showed that systemic therapy, predominantly bevacizumab, is most commonly utilised at first progression. There was no observed statistically significant difference in post-progression survival between those who underwent re-resection and those who received systemic therapy alone.

๐Ÿ” Opened in 2018, the BRAIN Registry is a robust clinical registry for patients with brain tumours in Australia, following them from presentation and diagnosis through to outcomes and management.

๐Ÿ”The BRAIN Registry supports novel research questions like that of Dr Sanderson, helping to shape our understanding of brain cancer management and drive the goal for improvement in treatment and outcomes alike.

Congratulations Dr Sanderson! Check out the full article here: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11060-026-05717-x

A big congratulations to Angus Campbell of the for completing his Masters of Biostatistics at Monash University ๐ŸŒŸ

Angus also received the Monash University Student Excellence Award as the top-performing Master of Biostatistics Student in 2025! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

His Masters project, titled โ€œPractical approaches to missing data in clinical registriesโ€ focused on comparing methods of varying complexity that can be used to handle missing data.

The aim was to identify approachable methods that can be used by researchers with more introductory levels of understanding in statistics. Angus is now working on getting his paper ready to send for publication.

Please join us in congratulating Angus on this great achievement. ๐ŸŒŸ

Check out some of the amazing breast cancer research happening at the presented at the Breast Cancer Trials 2026 ASM ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿ” Dr Vanessa Wong presents the first interim analysis of the KATRINA study, examining baseline characteristics and treatment delivery of early triple-negative breast cancer patients who received pembrolizumab in combination with chemotherapy. We eagerly await further outcome data to be presented in mid-2027.

๐Ÿ”Dr Laura Panozzo, a registrar at Grampians Health and Monash Health, is exploring the use of bone-modifying agents in HR+, HER2- metastatic breast cancer, utilising data from the ARORA Registry.

๐Ÿ”The TRACIE Registry shows that real world use of sacituzumab govitecan is in line with survival outcomes shown in clinical trials and there is improved benefit when it is used in earlier line therapy.

Great examples of the potential for the registry studies to provide robust real world evidence to answer novel research questions ๐ŸŒŸ

Do you or someone you know have a brain tumour? We are inviting patients to share their lived experience of brain cancer and their interaction with the healthcare system.

The BEACON registry seeks to understand how a brain tumour diagnosis impacts an individual and their quality of life, to determine what supportive care needs are lacking and how these can be improved for better patient outcomes.

We would love to hear from you! Sign up here: https://beacon.wehi.edu.au
