What made or broke your breastfeeding journey? World Breastfeeding Week is an opportunity to celebrate breastfeeding and continue advocating for better support for the families who want to breastfeed.
The evidence for breastfeeding’s benefits is well established. It has the potential to positively influence the health of mothers, babies and future generations through its unique nutritional and biological properties.
At the same time, I know this week can be difficult for some families.
If you were unable to breastfeed, your breastfeeding journey ended sooner than you hoped, or you chose a different feeding path, celebrating breastfeeding this week does not diminish your experience or the love and care you’ve given your baby.
These two things can exist at the same time.
We can celebrate breastfeeding, advocate for better support, and make space for every family’s story with compassion and without judgement.
Happy World Breastfeeding Week.
