For those who don’t know me:
👋 I am Dr Lexi Frydenberg, a General Paediatrician and Educator in Melbourne Australia, and am passionate about children’s health, development and well-being.

📖 I post on Social Media as I love sharing practical, quality health information with parents, carers and other health professionals.
📒 I have spent the last 18 mths writing a book with my friend and colleague, child psychologist Deirdre Brandner Psychology - it’s for parents, families, educators and anyone who works with children who find learning challenging. It’s called “When learning is hard” and is being released early 2027 ( available to preorder know)
👩‍👦‍👦 I split my work time between seeing kids and their families, education and mentoring, radio, podcasting, writing, facilitating and speaking.

🏥 I have been working in Paediatrics for 25 + years, spending my clinical time between the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne and Victorian Children’s
Clinic, a large multidisciplinary private paediatric practice that I co-founded in 2013.

🎙 I am a regular guest on podcasts, radio and TV and write articles and blog posts on parenting websites

Outside of my work, I am a mother of 3 pretty special teens and young adults and I love reading, dancing and making a fool of myself (as my kids will tell you)

💬 I would love to hear from you- so please get in touch if you have a question, a topic idea or even to just say hi- just send me a DM or leave a comment

Does your child hate reading out loud ? For children with learning or reading difficulties, reading in front of their friends or teachers can be incredibly frightening and many patients have told me what a damaging experience it has been. So please teachers, if I child is struggling with their reading, please don’t ask them to read in front of their classmates.

Screens are part of childhood now.

But in a world filled with notifications, videos and endless scrolling, how do we help children keep finding their way back to books?

The answer isn’t necessarily to take screens away. It’s to make room for something else, too: stories, imagination, curiosity and the quiet joy of getting lost in a good book.

We’ve put together some simple, practical ways to help children stay connected to reading.

Great post outlining some of the strengths many people with dyslexia describe • Kathleen | Certified Dyslexia Therapist | CALT Dyslexia brings real challenges.

But it also brings real strengths.

And this month, both deserve to be talked about.

Creativity.

Empathy.

Resilience.

Big picture thinking.

Curiosity.

Problem solving.

Visualization.

Determination.

These are not consolation prizes.

They are genuine strengths that show up again and again in people with dyslexia built through experience, through hard days and through a brain that has always had to find another way.

Not every person with dyslexia will have all of these strengths.

And some people without dyslexia will have them too.

Every person is different.

This celebrates what many dyslexic people experience, not what everyone must.
