The way we speak to ourselves shapes everything...it ripples through our mind, body, and energy system (chakras)...

~ either depleting us or lifting us up.

~ either fueling intrusive thoughts/OCD and chronic pain and symptoms, or soothing our nervous system to safety.

Self-kindness, like self-compassion, isn’t always easy. But when we start treating ourselves the way we would a good friend, we build the foundation for real healing. πŸ’›

This is because we begin to nourish ourselves from the inside out and over time, those small acts of kindness soften old patterns, calm the nervous system and open space for growth. Healing isn’t about perfection or fixing ourselves, it’s about meeting ourselves with gentleness, kindness and compassion again and again, moment by moment.

That’s where transformation begins.

OCD targets what you love and care about. It also latches onto anything you fear.

It goes straight for the things and people that mean the world to you... your deepest values, relationships, beliefs, and sense of identity. That’s why intrusive thoughts can feel so shocking and disturbing.

If you’re kind and value kindness, you might get violent or harm-related thoughts.

If you deeply value your relationship, your mind mightΒ say,Β β€œWhat if you don’t really love them?”

If you’re a caring parent,Β β€œWhat if I hurt my child?”

The mind does this not because you’re bad or broken...but because it’s trying (in a misguided way) to protect you.

It mistakesΒ thoughtsΒ forΒ threats,Β and in its effort to keep you safe, it traps you in loops of fear and doubt.

Healing, for me, has been about learning toΒ let the thoughts be thereΒ without needing to analyse, fix, or neutralise them.. feeling theΒ emotions (energy) underneath fueling them, and bringing compassion to the parts of me that are scared.

The less you fight the thoughts, the more space you create for acceptance, presence, and self-trust to grow.Β

Each time you do this, you begin to reclaim your personal power, strengthening yourΒ solar plexus chakra, the centre of confidence and self-trust.πŸ’›

As this energy flows upward into yourΒ heart chakra, you can anchor yourself in compassion, for yourself, for your thoughts, and for the part of you that’s simply trying to keep you safe.

Little by little, things start to feel lighter. Intrusive thoughts lose their power, and you don’t just come back to balance...you come back with wisdom in your mind, body and soul. ❀️

It's OCD Awareness week and I hope to do my bit in sharing information and inspiration for recovery because healing is possible. πŸ™

We could be in the most beautiful part of the world, but if intrusive thoughts are taking over our inner world, we will struggle to connect to the presence and beauty right in front of us. πŸ’–

Being stuck in OCD loops can feel like all the beauty in the world has dissapeared, but if we can loosen our judgment on ourselves, practice acceptance of "what is" and soothe our scared parts with self compassion, then little by little the world will start feeling brighter again. βœ¨οΈπŸ™

OCD and intrusive thoughts/images/urges/sensations can be so debilitating. The more we try to not think of something or not feel something, the more energy we give it and therefore the more power it has over us. Just like when we keep adding wood to a fire, it will continue to burn. But if we stop adding wood, what happens? The fire slowly loses its flames and starts toΒ die down, until eventually it burns out on its own.

In the same way, when we stop feeding intrusive thoughts/sensations/urges/images with fear, resistance, or constant checking, they gradually lose their intensity and frequency. The thought/ feeling may still appear from time to time, but without the fuel of our reaction, it no longer has the same power to consume us.❀️

Over time, the mind learns that the thought is just a thought, not a threat that needs to be solved or controlled. You start to build inner safety within where intrusive thoughts may still pop into your head, but they don't have the same power over you anymore because you allow them to be there instead of resisting them.

It takes time and practice but healing is possible. πŸ’“

Throughout my own OCD recovery journey I felt so much shame and guilt for the harmful intrusive thoughts that were looping 24/7. Although I had completed so much exposure therapy, I still felt horrible. It wasn't until I started diving into 'self-compassion' practices and 'self-acceptance' that something finally shifted for me.

❀️ Learning how to self-soothe, how to speak to myself with kindness and care, and how to offer myself compassion was like putting a balm on a wound - finally, there was some relief.

🌈 So, creating these mindfulness practices - specifically for people struggling with OCD/ anxiety and intrusive thoughts felt really meaningful to me.

✨️ Often, during mental health struggles we look outside of ourselves, desperate for answers and relief. However, turning inward and connecting with the wisdom of your mind, body and soul to show you the way can be really special and powerful. That's what these mindfulness practices are for.

Happy OCD Awareness week.πŸ™πŸ’•

πŸ’— Trying to get to sleep while your mind is racing with intrusive thoughts and OCD anxieties can be so challenging. I get it. I created this mindfulness practice to support anyone struggling with sleep, especially those struggling with OCD.

By bringing in compassionate care to your struggles while drawing awareness to the breath and body, this practice aims to support you into a state of rest and sleep - even when the mind is racing. πŸ™
