Why can you stretch the same tight spot every morning and somehow wake up needing to do it all over again?
Because feeling tight and actually lacking flexibility aren’t always the same thing.
Your experience of tightness is influenced by sensory information coming from your muscles, connective tissues and joints, and by how your nervous system interprets that information.
So instead of spending 20 minutes fighting the same spot every morning, try changing the conversation:
🎯 Find the area instead of attacking it
🫁 Use pressure you can comfortably breathe through
⏱️ Give the sensation time to change
🚶 Get up and test it with actual movement
Walk around. Bend down. Put your shoes on.
Because the real test of your morning routine isn’t how loose you feel lying on the floor.
It’s whether you can get up and get on with your morning.
Follow Human Frequency for more ways to understand what your tension is telling you.

You know that feeling when you first get out of bed and your body just doesn’t feel ready yet?

You stand up carefully. Take a few steps. Maybe bend a little just to see what you’re working with that morning.

Then after you’ve moved around for a while, things can start feeling different.

That’s what makes morning MFR interesting.

A few minutes of pressure gives your body sensory input before you properly start moving, which can temporarily change how an area feels and how comfortable movement feels.

It’s less about “breaking up” something tight.

More about giving your body some input, then seeing how it responds when you get up.

Notice how different your first five minutes can feel from your next five.

Share this with someone who has to warm up before their morning really starts.

Here’s something most people don’t realise after an injury: the tissue and the movement don’t necessarily recover at the same speed.

You might be medically cleared, yet still hesitate before bending, brace before lifting or move differently without even noticing it.

Why?

Because movement is also controlled by your nervous system.

After an injury, your brain can learn protective strategies around movements it associates with threat. Some of those strategies can remain even as the injured tissue recovers.

That’s why rebuilding isn’t always about finding another thing to “fix.”

Sometimes it’s gradually showing your body what it can safely do again.

Think about it: is there a movement you still protect even though the original injury happened years ago?

Try this when you get home from a stressful day.

Before going straight from work mode into family mode, give yourself five minutes.

Put the phone down. Walk outside. Breathe slowly. Move a little.

You’re creating a transition between one environment and the next.

It sounds small, but repeated routines can become cues that help your body shift states.

You don’t always need an hour.

Sometimes you need a few minutes where nothing is being asked of you.

Save this and try it after your next stressful day.

If a little pressure feels good, more pressure must work better… right?

Not necessarily.

A lot of people in Melbourne approach a tight spot like it’s something they need to attack.

So they dig harder, tolerate more discomfort and assume that means they’re getting deeper into the tissue.

But your body isn’t something you need to overpower.

If you’re tensing up and waiting for the release to be over, that’s useful information.

Ease off.

Find a pressure where you can actually relax, breathe and give yourself a few minutes instead of trying to force something to change.

That small shift can completely change how you approach MFR.

You stop asking, “How much can I tolerate?”

And start asking, “How is my body responding?” 🧠

This is exactly why we focus so much on foundation at Human Frequency.
Because she’s not just saying, “I want to feel better today.”
She’s saying, “I want to go back to the gym, do my squats, do my hip thrusts, train properly, and not end up back in the same cycle again.”
And that cycle is frustrating because you start building momentum, you get seven or eight weeks into training, then the pelvis, hip or SI joint starts hurting again and you have to stop.
That doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It doesn’t mean you’re not disciplined.
It usually means the body is being asked to carry load on top of a foundation that still doesn’t feel solid enough.
So the work we’re doing now has a different purpose. Every session and every home exercise is helping her body build the base it didn’t have before, so when training comes back in, there’s more support underneath it.
That’s how you start breaking the stop-start cycle.
If you’re one of the Melbourne population whose body keeps interrupting their training, comment “TRAINING” book a free 15-minute Clarity Call and let’s help you understand what’s actually pulling you back.

MFR doesn’t need to become another 45-minute recovery session you have to squeeze into your day.

Sometimes I’ll grab the ball while I’m reading and spend a few minutes exploring an area that’s been feeling tight.

Comfortable pressure. Slow breathing. No smashing the tissue.

Then I get up and see how walking feels.

Because recovery becomes much easier to stay consistent with when it fits into your life instead of taking it over.

I don’t care if you can perfectly optimise your hydration. I care whether you still have something left at the end of the day.
Enough energy to take the dog out.
Play with your kids.
Train.
Cook dinner without feeling completely cooked yourself.
Go for a walk with your partner instead of collapsing onto the couch.
That’s why the boring basics matter.
Water, food, minerals, breathing, sleep and movement aren’t exciting things to talk about.
But they’re part of the environment you live in every single day.
The goal isn’t to become obsessed with looking after your body. It’s to look after it enough that you have more of yourself available for your life.
Send this to someone who’s been running on empty lately.

Think about the last time you received news that completely changed your mood.

Before you even knew what to say, your body probably responded.

Your breathing changed. Your posture shifted. Your muscles tightened or your energy dropped.

That’s because emotions aren’t experienced only as thoughts. They involve changes across the brain, nervous system and body.

Learning to notice those physical responses gives you another way to understand what you’re experiencing.

Sometimes the first question isn’t, “How do I stop feeling this?”

It’s simply, “What is happening in my body right now?”
