Huge thanks to our team who worked so hard interstate on this amazing & innovative project and thank you to Australian Stainless Steel Development Association for the recognition!
2,800 metres of stainless steel tubing. Nearly 1,000 valves. One nationally significant biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
ASSDA Member Pure Piping has been nominated in the Food, Beverage and Pharmaceutical category of the ASSDA Fabricator Project Awards for its work on Aurora Biosynthetics.
Delivered as part of the NSW Governmentβs RNA Research & Manufacturing Facility, the project supports Australiaβs sovereign capability in mRNA, synthetic RNA and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) development and pilot-scale manufacturing.
Pure Piping completed the fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning of the stainless steel process systems and associated utilities that form the backbone of RNA production, purification and formulation throughout the facility.
The extensive scope included 2,000 metres of ASME BPE SF1 316L tubing, 800 metres of AS 1528 316L tubing, 963 valves, 270 instruments and 95 pieces of equipment, alongside 26 custom utility panels and specialised process skids.
Working to stringent pharmaceutical manufacturing and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements, Pure Piping applied hygienic design principles and precision fabrication techniques to deliver fully drainable systems with carefully controlled slopes and high-purity finishes. Orbital weld inspections, surface finish verification, material traceability, pressure testing and comprehensive quality documentation helped ensure the systems met the projectβs demanding standards.
Innovation extended beyond the mechanical systems, with process electrical and controls integration connecting critical utilities, monitoring and safety systems to the facilityβs operational technology environment.
Sustainability was also a key consideration. The facility is targeting a 5 Star Green Star β Design & As Built v1.3 rating, with a cold Water for Injection (WFI) system designed to avoid conventional gas-driven steam distillation. Off-site prefabrication, solar-powered workshop operations and precision orbital welding further supported waste reduction and resource efficiency.
Congratulations to Pure Piping on this outstanding nomination, recognising the technical expertise, collaboration and commitment required to deliver advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing infrastructure for Australiaβs future. π
