𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗢𝗡𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗣𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬.

Every older Australian deserves care that respects their dignity, personal choices, and independence.

The Australian Government has announced an important change to the 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺: personal care services are now fully funded, with no participant contributions for these services.

Effective 1 October 2026, the change covers personal care such as:

✔️ Showering and personal hygiene
✔️ Dressing and getting ready
✔️Eating assistance
✔️ Continence support
✔️Assistance with taking medication

The Government has committed $1 billion to remove participant contributions for these services, helping older Australians access essential personal care while continuing to live at home.

Australia's ageing population is changing the way we think about care. 💛

Behind every statistic is a person who wants to remain independent, a family balancing caregiving responsibilities, and an older Australian who deserves to age with dignity.

With approximately 293,000 people using home care as of 30 June 2025, the need for quality, personalised support is clear.

At 𝗔𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲, we believe care goes beyond assistance. It's about helping older Australians maintain their independence, feel valued, and enjoy a better quality of life in the comfort of their own homes.

Because everyone deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for as they age.

💛 Anchor Care — Real Care, Always.

𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 and 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 are separate government systems, with different eligibility requirements, assessment processes, funding arrangements, and support frameworks.

For providers, support coordinators, families, and referral partners, understanding this distinction is important.

But the question is not simply:

“How old is the person? ”

A more useful approach is:

✔️What are their needs?
✔️What eligibility pathway applies?
✔️What support system is appropriate?

Understanding the difference can help reduce incorrect referrals, confusion, and gaps in support.

Person-centred care starts with understanding both the person and the pathway.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?

For many older Australians, it means having the right support to stay safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

That’s where 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 comes in.

Support is based on a person’s 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀, 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 and can include help with 𝗱𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀, 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.

There are also options for 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀, 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝗼𝗳-𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲.

Because good care is about more than receiving support, it’s about helping people live 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩.

𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦. 𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘. 𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗬.

Australia’s new aged care system puts older people at the centre with greater emphasis on choice, autonomy, person-centred care and staying independent at home.

For families, understanding these changes can help you have better conversations about the support your loved one wants and needs.

Care should support a person’s life, not take over it.

For participants, families, carers, and providers, the next question is not simply "𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱?"

It’s:

“W𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗺𝗲? ”

The new laws are being introduced in stages. Some measures are beginning soon, while other reforms will take effect later.

That means two things are especially important:

💛 Don’t treat every headline as an immediate change to your plan.
💛 Don’t assume every reform starts at the same time.

The NDIS has confirmed that participants can continue using their plans and supports as usual while the reforms are progressively introduced. Eligibility changes are not scheduled to take effect until 𝟭 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟴.

For participants and families, this is a good time to:

✔️ Keep track of official NDIS updates.
✔️ Understand which changes are already active
✔️ Ask questions when something affects your plan or supports
✔️ Keep your records and evidence up to date.
✔️ Seek clarification before making decisions based on social media or headlines.

NDIS prices changed on 1 July 2026 — here's what it actually means for you 👇

If your provider has mentioned new rates lately, this is why: the NDIA rolled out its 2026–27 Pricing Schedule, and it's now the reference point for what providers can charge.

But here's the part that often gets missed: a maximum price is a ceiling, not a fixed fee. You and your provider can still agree on a price that reflects the support you're actually getting.

And if you're already in a service agreement? Providers can't just switch you to the new rates without talking to you first. You have to agree to the change before it applies.

Swipe through the carousel for the full breakdown.

At the end of the day, price is just one piece of the puzzle. Quality, safety, communication, and how much choice and control you feel matter just as much.

“I have funding, so I’m covered… right?”

Not always.

Imagine needing support later in your plan, only to realise your available budget doesn’t stretch as far as you expected.

Or having more funding available than you need in one period, while another support becomes important later.

That’s why understanding your plan before you need to make a decision can make a big difference.

Your circumstances can change. Your support needs can change. And the way your funding is arranged matters too.

💡 The goal isn’t to spend less. It’s to make sure your resources are being used thoughtfully for the supports that matter to you.

𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗦 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴. What should participants know?

A new planning approach is being developed, with support needs assessments intended to help inform participant budgets.

The proposed approach aims to make planning more consistent and reduce some of the time and expense involved in gathering supporting evidence.

What matters now?
The new process is not being introduced overnight. The NDIS says rollout is planned to begin from April 2027, with more information to be shared before participants transition.

For participants, families, and carers, the key is to understand what is confirmed, what is still being developed, and when any changes apply to their circumstances.

Stay informed. Stay involved.
