Using simulation to strengthen paediatric transport teams πŸš‘

A new study by Devin A. McKissic and colleagues explores how paediatric critical care transport teams experience simulation-based education, drawing on debriefing sessions from the multicentre ImPACTS transport simulation study.

The findings highlight the potential for simulation to support not only education and team development, but also quality improvement across healthcare systems.

What happens when you put the healthcare simulation community in one room?

You get new ideas, shared experiences, conversations that continue well beyond the conference, and plenty of opportunities to learn from people tackling the same challenges you are.

At NHSC26, we’re bringing together simulation professionals from across Australia and beyond for two days of workshops, presentations, research and connection on the Gold Coast.

What will you take back to your team from NHSC26?

βœ… A new approach to debriefing?
βœ… A different way to design simulation?
βœ… An idea you can put into practice?
βœ… A connection with someone facing the same challenges you are?

This conference is about bringing together people working across healthcare simulation to share what’s working, learn from each other and take practical ideas back into their own teams, organisations and communities.

Building stronger communication skills through simulation πŸ—£οΈ

A new article by Na Guo and colleagues explores an AIDET-informed simulation curriculum designed to help anesthesiology residents practise challenging perioperative conversations with patients and families.

The curriculum combines realistic scenarios, simulated participants, structured observation and debriefing, with preliminary findings showing improved communication performance, greater confidence and lower self-reported stress during difficult conversations.

Making simulation part of everyday practice πŸ”„

A new study by Anders Lund Schram and colleagues explores how simulation-based team training became embedded within paediatric departments, looking at the local conditions and practical adjustments that helped it gain a stronger foothold.

The findings highlight the importance of protected time, leadership support, clinically relevant scenarios and repeated participation, with simulation also influencing communication, confidence and how teams approach challenging situations in everyday practice.
