Today was a very special day.
For the solstice event at Aspendale Life Saving Club, I brought down three of my Cossack Sauna, and we had more than 80 people attend!
Honestly, it filled my cup.
Seeing people walk out smiling, glowing, a bit cooked, a bit frozen, and fully alive…
The energy today was bloody beautiful.
I loved seeing faces light up.
I loved hearing the laughs.
I loved watching people go from “yeah nah, this water looks freezing” to jumping in anyway, then marching straight back into the heat for another round.
And yes, I took great joy in doing my sacred job of pouring more water on the sauna rocks and turning the whole thing into a glorious Finnish-Ukrainian beach punishment chamber 😂
But genuinely… this is why I do it.
Most of my life is spent in front of screens.
AI, Websites. Ads. SEO. Marketing. Devices. Notifications. Tabs open like some kind of digital Soviet collapse.
We live in a time where technology makes us feel hooked and connected all day, but feeling more isolated than ever.
That part feels very real to me.
So being able to create something physical, grounding, and shared… something that brings people together in real life… means a lot.
There’s something different about this combination of sauna + cold salty ocean.
It’s not the same as a standard sauna and a swimming pool.
The bay has its own personality.
The cold water wakes you right up.
The salt, the wind, the darkness rolling in, the steam, the nervous laughter before people run in… it all becomes an experience.
It feels healing.
It feels honest.
It feels like community.
This whole sauna setup has been a long journey for me.
I’ve been refining these particular saunas for six or seven years, testing different combinations of tents and ovens, trying to get them properly hot while still keeping them portable and practical.
So to see them working exactly as they should, with a crowd like today’s, was deeply satisfying.
I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who came along and brought such great energy.
And a huge thank you, most of all, to Aspendale Life Saving Club for hosting the event and making it possible. Ben Pahl, Marty Whitney for spending most of your Sunday on duty!
Also, a big thank you to my very close neighbours who helped me set everything up and pack it all down. A lot of lifting, planning, hauling, heating, packing, unpacking, and general organised chaos.
Days like today make it worth every bit of effort.
I really hope everyone who came carries that feeling with them through tonight and gets an amazing sleep.
And I feel genuinely blessed to be able to share them with this community.
More photos and videos to come
Thank you, legends.
