💪 SIDE-LYING ROTATOR CUFF EXERCISE💪

Looking to strengthen your rotator cuff? Try this side-lying external rotation exercise! 👇

The side-lying position can help you focus on your rotator cuff muscles with less involvement from other shoulder muscles compared to some standing variations using a cable machine.

✅ How to do it:
🛏️ Lie on your side with your elbow bent to 90°.
🧻 Place a small towel between your elbow and your body to help maintain your position and neutralise the scapula and ensure the humeral head is more centralised in the shoulder.
🏋️ Start with a very light weight (1–3 kg, or lighter if needed).
↗️ Slowly rotate your forearm upwards, keeping your elbow tucked against your side.
🐢 Control the movement on the way down — no swinging or rushing!

💡 Physio tip: Heavier isn’t always better! Focus on controlled movement, good technique and a weight that suits your current strength and symptoms.

Shoulder pain or looking to improve your shoulder strength? At Plenty Physiotherapy, we can help you find the right exercises for your needs. 💙

⚡️ Meet R2D2 🤖 Our Shockwave Therapy machine at Plenty Physiotherapy!

Dealing with stubborn tendon pain that just doesn’t seem to go away? 👀

Shockwave Therapy uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate a controlled healing response in the affected tissue. It helps via:

🩹 Stimulating tissue repair
🩸 Increasing local blood flow
💪 Promoting collagen production
🔄 Improving tendon remodelling
🧠 Helping reduce pain sensitivity
🦴 Addressing certain calcium deposits and abnormal tissue changes

But here’s the important part 👇

Shockwave Therapy isn’t a magic fix as it works best as part of a bigger rehabilitation plan. 🏋️‍♀️

At Plenty Physiotherapy, we combine Shockwave Therapy with personalised exercises and progressive rehabilitation to help restore strength, function and confidence.

If you’ve been dealing with persistent tendon pain, Shockwave Therapy may be an option worth exploring.

🌀 BPPV — what is it?

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common causes of positional dizziness/vertigo. It occurs when small calcium carbonate crystals (otoconia) become displaced within the inner ear and stimulate the balance system incorrectly with certain head movements.

🔍 But not all dizziness is BPPV.

A thorough assessment is important to identify whether the presentation is consistent with a peripheral vestibular condition such as BPPV, or whether there are signs that may suggest a central neurological cause requiring further medical investigation.

Today’s assessment involved the Dix-Hallpike test followed by an Epley manoeuvre for suspected posterior canal BPPV. This is depicted in the images above.

The aim is to use gravity to guide the displaced otoconia back into the appropriate part of the vestibular system.

👉 Different canals require different manoeuvres. For example, horizontal canal BPPV may be treated with a BBQ roll manoeuvre.

Correct diagnosis first, appropriate manoeuvre second. 🧠👂

⚡ Could Shockwave Therapy help your pain?⚡

Heel pain? Tennis elbow? Achilles pain? These are just some of the conditions we commonly use Shockwave Therapy for at Plenty Physiotherapy.

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic waves to deliver mechanical energy to an area of pain or dysfunction.

Research supports its use in a range of chronic tendon and soft tissue conditions, including:

✅ Plantar fasciitis
✅ Achilles tendinopathy
✅ Tennis elbow
✅ Golfer’s elbow
✅ Patellar tendinopathy
✅ Rotator cuff tendinopathy
✅ Gluteal tendinopathy

It may also be appropriate for some cases of calcific shoulder tendinopathy and other chronic soft tissue conditions.

But Shockwave Therapy isn’t a one-size-fits-all treatment. 👇

Your pain needs to be properly assessed first so we can understand what’s contributing to your symptoms and determine whether Shockwave Therapy is an appropriate part of your treatment plan.

⚡ The goal isn’t simply to treat the painful area — it’s to help you get back to doing what you love.
