Meet Our Engagement Team! ๐Ÿ’™

Thereโ€™s a lot that happens behind the scenes to make sure our services are organised, responsive and centred around the people we support.

Meet our Engagement Team, led by Engagement Coordinator Rumee, alongside Sam, Katie and Anurag. ๐Ÿ‘‹

From the beginning of a participantโ€™s journey and throughout their time with More Opportunities, our Engagement Team supports many of the important systems and processes that keep our services running smoothly.

Their work includes:

๐Ÿ’š World Mental Health Day โ€“ 10 October ๐Ÿ’š

Today is a reminder that mental health matters โ€” for everyone.

Mental health can look different for each person, and sometimes the challenges people are facing arenโ€™t visible. A conversation, a check-in, or simply taking the time to listen can make a meaningful difference.

At More Opportunities, we believe in creating communities where people feel supported, included, valued and heard.

This World Mental Health Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in โ€” with yourself, with a friend, a colleague, a family member, or someone who might need a little extra support.

Itโ€™s okay to ask for help. Itโ€™s okay to have hard days. And no one should have to navigate them alone. ๐Ÿ’š

Celebrating Our Support Workers ๐Ÿ’™

Today weโ€™re shining a spotlight on the incredible Support Workers who are at the heart of what we do at More Opportunities.

No two days in support work are quite the same. It might be an early morning start, supporting someone to an appointment, heading out for community access, preparing a favourite meal, working towards a new skill or simply being there when someone needs support.

Behind these everyday moments are Support Workers building trust, encouraging independence, adapting to changing needs and helping the people we support live life their way.

Itโ€™s the little things that often make the biggest difference โ€” the conversations, laughs, encouragement, patience and genuine connections made along the way. ๐Ÿ’™

To our Support Workers across More Opportunities: thank you for everything you bring to your role and to the lives of the people we support.

Here are just a few snapshots of our team doing what they do best! ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ

Last weekend, More Opportunities attended the NDIS Awards Night for the very first time, and we were incredibly proud to be nominated across three categories:

๐Ÿ† SIL Provider of the Year
๐Ÿ† Support Provider of the Year
๐Ÿ† Support Coordination

We are so proud of our entire team and the care, commitment and hard work they bring each day to supporting our participants to achieve their goals and live the lives they choose.

A wonderful night celebrating our sector, connecting with others and recognising the incredible work happening across the disability community.

Here are a few photos from the night! ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’œ World Alzheimerโ€™s Day | 21 September

Today, weโ€™re raising awareness of Alzheimerโ€™s disease and dementia โ€” and recognising that a diagnosis can bring significant changes not only for the person, but also for their family, carers and wider support network.

As someoneโ€™s needs change, the right support can make a meaningful difference. Within disability support, this means continuing to see the person first while adapting supports around their changing needs.

๐Ÿ’œ Supporting choice and decision-making
๐Ÿค Encouraging independence wherever possible
๐Ÿ’ฌ Adapting communication as needs change
๐Ÿก Supporting safety, dignity and familiar routines
๐ŸŒฑ Maintaining meaningful community connections
๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Working alongside families and carers through changes
๐Ÿซถ Helping support networks understand and adjust to evolving needs

For families, changes in memory, communication, behaviour and independence can bring new challenges. Listening, sharing information and working together can help everyone navigate these changes while keeping the personโ€™s wishes, dignity and quality of life at the centre.

At More Opportunities, we believe good support evolves with the person โ€” and includes the people who are important to them. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐Ÿ“ข NDIS Changes โ€“ What do participants and families need to know?

You may have heard that new changes to the NDIS have recently become law.

While there are a number of changes coming over the next few years, you donโ€™t need to navigate them all at once.

Here are a few things to know:

๐Ÿ“‹ Plan reassessments are changing
Participants can still request an earlier reassessment where there has been a significant and ongoing change to their support needs, functional capacity or circumstances.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Funding periods are becoming part of NDIS plans
Funding may be released in periods rather than the entire budget being available at once, helping participants manage funding across the life of their plan.

๐Ÿงพ Keeping good records is becoming even more important
Participants, nominees and providers have new requirements around how long records relating to NDIS supports and payments need to be kept.

๐Ÿ”„ More changes are coming gradually
Further changes to planning, funding and how the NDIS operates will be introduced over time โ€” they are not all happening at once.

Most importantly, participants can continue using their current plans and supports as usual unless the NDIA advises that a change affects them.

At More Opportunities, weโ€™ll continue keeping across NDIS changes and supporting participants and families to understand what they may mean for their individual supports. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’› R U OK? Day โ€“ A conversation could change a life.

Today is a reminder that you donโ€™t need to be an expert to check in with someone โ€” you just need to care enough to ask, โ€œAre you OK?โ€

At More Opportunities, connection, inclusion and looking out for one another are important to us โ€” for the people we support, our team, our families and our wider community.

R U OK? encourages four simple steps:

๐Ÿ’› Ask โ€“ R U OK?
๐Ÿ‘‚ Listen โ€“ Give them your full attention
๐Ÿค Encourage action โ€“ Help them find support if needed
๐Ÿ’ฌ Check in โ€“ Keep the conversation going

Sometimes the smallest conversation can make a big difference.

Today, and every day, take a moment to check in with the people around you. ๐Ÿ’›
