563. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. The waitress at Wylde Oak Cafe telling us they have a gluten-free fryer for their chippies.
2. Going for evening walks and hearing the deafening cicadas. Summer is on it's way.
3. Op shopping finds (a Sir the Label shirt and a Daughters of India blouse) plus cakes at Hyde.
4. Running into friends at the beach. Instant play dates that I didn't even need to organise for my daughter.
5. How crystal clear the ocean was when I opened my eyes underwater today.

562. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. The new Peppermint Cookie Crunch Loco Love flavour. What a dream come true for a choc mint lover like myself. Has anyone tried the Black Sesame and Date?
2. Explaining to a Gen Z what a fax machine was. I have never felt more ancient.
3. My daughter finding a perfect formal dress. She just has to not change her mind over the next ten weeks.
4. The fact that my husband bought two bags of pegs because they were only $1.50 each. That is a total of 96 pegs. Maybe all my clients over the next couple of weeks can grab a handful each.
5. Sunshine being a daily occurrence.

CLINIC MUSINGS

Simplicity is the key. 🍃

Hydration, time in nature, movement, wholefoods, quality sleep and mindful breaths are the pillars to good health but are often overlooked. Lots of ppl are willing to spend a bucketload on the latest superfoods/antioxidants/quick fixes yet they’re skipping the basics.

It’s really beautiful to sit down with clients and see how their body returns to balance from focussing on simple daily habits.

Your body always knows what to do.🌱

I was INUNDATED with advice from well meaning people when I was pregnant and then had my baby.

I get it. It’s like if you’ve just returned from Bali, then someone tells you that they’re going next month. You instantly blurt out the best places to eat, how to get to the water park and what to do if you get Bali Belly. You want them to enjoy themselves and learn from your mistakes.

The only problem with all this advice is:
a) that’s what worked for THEM and THEIR baby. This is you and yours.
b) it’s overwhelming!!

When Eadie was nearly due, my naturopath told me to find two or three women whom I deeply trusted and they would be the people I turned to for advice rather than listening to the lady at the checkout or Googling the baby’s symptoms and ultimately feeling overwhelmed. When given any advice outside of those three people, I would reply “Thankyou”, smile and let it drift away.

One was a friend who had her baby three days after mine. We were the blind leading the blind but it felt like we were part of a secret club who texted absolute novels at 2am when we were up breastfeeding.

The second was a mama of three who gave incredibly practical advice.

The third was my best friend who didn’t have kids but she knew ME and it’s important to look after number one.

What are your thoughts and feelings? 🌼

561. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. Buying a pair of swimmers online (what a risk!) and they were actually perfect!
2. Hearing on a podcast "Have your head where your feet are."
3. The look my husband gave me when I sat down with him to watch the last 5 minutes of the AFL grand final and I asked him how many quarters were in the game. Four apparently. 🤷‍♀️
4. That shower you have after lying in bed sick all day that breathes 15% more life back into you. Followed by putting on fresh pjs, brushing your teeth and going back to bed.
5. Kalyn Ponga. I'm just so happy for him.

MY TWO SECRET INGREDIENTS 🤫

🐮 Beef liver powder: contains iron, B12, vitamin A and zinc. I love the Chief brand because it’s excellent quality. One bag lasts me 6 months. I don’t actually measure it but I add about 1 rounded tsp to a saucy meal like bolognese or taco mince while it’s still cooking. I’ve done this for years and nobody has noticed yet. 👀

🧀 Nutritional yeast flakes: a source of B vits and protein for the cheesy taste minus the dairy! It’s especially tasty in zucchini slice, mash, white sauce, chicken soup.

Just a couple of ways I give my family’s meals a bit of a boost 🥰

560. Top 5 Things I Loved This Wk:

1. Spending time in the sun SeaSol-ing my garden and all the indoor plants.
2. When funny things happen in the day and I commit them to memory so I can tell Eadie when she's home from the school. Its usually something little like seeing a dog with a funny name like 'Rissole' on its harness. I like that we share the same sense of humor.
3. The touch footy team attacking the container of half-time oranges like a flock of seagulls.
4. Learning. I've been doing lots of interesting practitioner webinars lately. This week I did one on pathology reference ranges for people with insulin resistance and another on high functioning anxiety.
5. The gf pizza at the Moonee Tav.

Balanced food for little tummies!

Remember lunchboxes in the 90s?! A sandwich, roll up or muesli bar and a piece of fruit! Maybe some coins to get an ice cup at the canteen…

This was my 11 year old’s lunchbox today. I get her to pack it so she has some autonomy over what’s in there. I feel like more gets eaten that way. There are some days where she barely touches anything and then we try to reiterate the whole “food is fuel” concept.

As girls become tweens/teens they can also be really dictated and influenced by what their friend group are and aren’t eating which is interesting.

My kid has always been a grazer so she has a variety of snacky things that she can grab which works best for her.

Kooee meat stick
Cobb popcorn bar
100% fruit strap
Apple
Cucumber
Carrot
Medjool dates with peanut butter
Blueberries
Banana and dark choc chip almond meal muffin

It can be really triggering to see a wholesomely balanced lunchbox on socials when your kid is going through a fussy stage. I’ve been there!

Today’s lunchbox post isn’t to set an example of a “perfect lunchbox”. It’s just to say that kids are always changing, keep putting fresh food in and to pack yourself a lunchbox while you’re making theirs!

Can I just say how proud I am of all the people out there who ate breakfast this morning, are eating lunch now and are going to eat a yummy dinner tonight. Maybe throw a snack in there too…

As a naturopath and nutritionist, food trends can really hurt my brain. 😵‍💫

Plant-based (let’s just call it what it is, vegan), only eating meat and no veggies (see ya later gut flora 👋🏽) or fasting (starving).

But now there is such a shift back to fuelling our bodies again! 🤩 Eating a banana before exercising instead of just a black coffee, basing meals around protein and adding in a variety of colourful fruit and veg! Happy days for our energy, concentration and hormones! 🕺🏻

Today’s lunch: gf preservative-free chicken sossies from the local butcher, half a plate of veg with some Mingle sweet chilli sauce. 🥗
