Hormone health doesn't always start with another supplement 💊

Sometimes, it starts with the foundations: eating enough, sleeping well, moving your body and finding ways to manage stress.

These everyday habits influence the signals that help regulate your menstrual cycle, energy, mood and overall wellbeing.

Before adding more to your routine, it’s worth looking at what your body is already asking for 🫐✨

If you're experiencing hormonal symptoms and aren't sure where to start, you can book a consultation with Janelle via the link below.

Your gut bacteria need feeding too 🦠

And one of the best ways to do that? Prebiotic fibre.

Think oats, lentils, onion, garlic, asparagus, slightly green bananas and cooked, cooled potatoes. These foods help nourish beneficial gut microbes, supporting digestion, bowel regularity and the production of short-chain fatty acids.

The trick? Go low and slow. Too much fibre too quickly can leave you feeling more bloated, especially if your gut is already sensitive.

Not sure what your gut needs? Eliza offers personalised nutrition consultations at Revital Health to help you make sense of your symptoms and find an approach that works for you 🥝🫐

Resting on Sunday, only to wake up on Monday still feeling exhausted? 🥱

For nurses and health practitioners, burnout can be particularly difficult to recognise. When caring for others is part of your everyday life, it can become normal to push through your own exhaustion, skip breaks and put your needs last.

But when stress has been building for months, one day of rest may not be enough to help you recover.

Supporting burnout means looking beyond simply getting more sleep. Regular nourishment, movement that supports rather than depletes you, sleep quality and having genuine time to switch off all matter. So does understanding what’s contributing to the exhaustion in the first place.

You spend so much of your time caring for others. Your health deserves that same level of attention, too. 🧡

If you’re a nurse or health practitioner feeling constantly depleted, book a consultation with Marli to explore your symptoms and find a personalised place to start.

Screens get a lot of blame when it comes to eye health, but the issue may be less about the screen itself and more about what happens to our eyes while we use one.

When we concentrate on a screen, we tend to blink less. That means the tear film covering the surface of the eye isn’t being refreshed as frequently, which can contribute to dryness, irritation and eye discomfort.

It’s one reason your eyes can feel tired, gritty or strained after a long day at the computer — even when there’s no underlying damage to the eye.

So if you spend hours at a screen, blinking regularly and giving your eyes opportunities to relax can be surprisingly important.

A prostate cancer diagnosis changes the questions you start asking.

In this conversation, Dr Don Railsback shares that he is currently under active monitoring for prostate cancer and describes the research he undertook into nutrition and non-traditional approaches to supporting his health.

He made significant changes to his diet and nutrition, and says that over the following year, his tumour size and prostate volume decreased.

What I find most interesting about this conversation is the broader question it raises: how much can we learn about supporting health when we look beyond a single diagnosis and consider the whole picture?

*Prostate cancer is complex, and treatment decisions should always be made alongside an appropriately qualified medical team.

We tend to think of the eye as an organ that simply allows us to see.

But the biology is far more fascinating.

Light entering the eye is converted into electrical and chemical signals, which are then transmitted to the brain for processing. In that sense, the eye is intimately connected with the nervous system — and its tissues have an enormous energy demand.

That’s one reason the retina contains such a high concentration of mitochondria, the structures responsible for producing cellular energy.

When those energy demands aren’t adequately supported, retinal tissues can be vulnerable to dysfunction and damage. Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration have complex causes, including genetics, ageing and environmental factors, with nutrition and UV exposure also relevant to overall eye health.

Your eyes aren’t separate from the rest of your health.
They’re living, metabolically active tissue — and looking after them means looking at the bigger picture.

What I do care about:

✨ Consistency over perfectionSmall things you can keep doing will always matter more than a perfect health routine that only lasts a few weeks.

🥗 That you’re eating enough nourishing foodYour body needs enough energy and nutrients to support your hormones, nervous system, metabolism, fertility and everything else it’s being asked to do.

🧠 Your sleep, stress and nervous systemHealth isn’t just about what’s on your plate. How you’re sleeping, recovering and managing the demands of everyday life all form part of the picture.

🌿 That your health plan fits into your real lifeBecause if your plan only works when life is calm, you have unlimited time and everything goes perfectly, it probably isn’t a very sustainable plan.

Your health plan should support your life, not make you feel like you’re constantly failing at it 🧡

Sitting at a desk all day can seem harmless — until you consider how many hours your body spends in the same position.

In this case, a patient was experiencing chronic neck and back pain, headaches and symptoms consistent with carpal tunnel syndrome. She was scheduled for surgery, while further investigation was planned for her neck.

But when her workstation was assessed, there was another obvious factor to consider: her entire setup was placing her body under unnecessary strain.

Her screen was too far away, her desk was too high, her wrists were poorly positioned, and she was repeatedly holding her body in an awkward posture to work and see the screen.

After her workstation was redesigned around a more neutral position, her symptoms improved dramatically over the following weeks.

It’s a powerful reminder that sometimes the environment we spend eight hours a day in deserves just as much attention as the symptoms themselves.

And importantly, this was one individual case — ergonomics isn’t a substitute for appropriate medical assessment. But it does show why looking at the whole picture can matter.
