Hope everyone had a lovely weekend! ā¤ļø

It's been a very wet one here on the Gold Coast, but I have to admit, it was actually quite nice having an excuse to stay home and not do very much. šŸ˜‚

It wasn't the camping weekend we had originally planned, but it was relaxing, nonetheless.

Although keeping two little kids entertained indoors is another story! 🤣

I did put the rainy weather to good use with a bit of meal prepping, though!

Kalby helped me create some delicious slow-cooker meals, and I've now got FOUR family dinners added to our freezer stash for one of those crazy days when there's just no time to cook. šŸ™Œ

As much as I'd love to cook a fresh dinner every night, we don't always have that luxury. I'm a big fan of bulk cooking and freezing meals for later.

And because of this, I'm adding a new feature to Kalby... šŸ‘€ Watch this space! More info coming soon.

Did everyone else enjoy a quieter weekend, or were you climbing the walls by Sunday?

Who decided we're meant to have everything figured out by our 40s? šŸ˜‚

I'll be 47 in a few months, and I still have a long list of things I want to learn, try and do.

I spent more than 20 years working in IT. Then came becoming a mum, training in health and wellness, and creating Kalby.

None of it has followed a particularly neat plan!

Some days I feel excited by all the possibilities. Other days I catch myself thinking I should be further along by now.

But I look at how much life has changed over the years and remind myself that there isn't actually a deadline for starting something new.

Anyone else finding that this chapter of life looks nothing like the one you imagined? ā¤ļø

Today would have been my Mum's birthday. ā¤ļø

Her birthday was always such a special time for us. We always went out of our way to spoil her and make wonderful memories together.

I'll never forget the year my brother and I surprised her with a skydiving adventure for her birthday. To this day, it remains one of the best experiences we've ever shared as a family.

When we moved to Australia, she celebrated pretty much all her birthdays with us here.

We stayed in gorgeous accommodation, roughed it camping — sometimes in torrential rain šŸ˜‚ — went hot air ballooning, cuddled koalas, rode rollercoasters and explored so many beautiful new destinations together.

The list of memories is endless.

And as grateful as I am for every single one of them, those same memories still make my heart ache because I miss her so terribly much.

There is still a huge, gaping hole in my life where she once was.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of her, miss her, and wish that I could speak to her again. Even if it were just one more time.

Sometimes, I actually look forward to going to sleep, because every now and then, she's there.

I get to see her. I get to be with her again.

And then I wake up.

And for those first few moments, when I realise she's gone, the grief washes over me all over again, just as it did when I first lost her.

I don't think there will ever be a day when I stop wishing she was here.

But, I feel so blessed that she was my Mum.

And not just my Mum, but the very best friend I ever had.

Happy birthday, Mum. ā¤ļø

I miss you more than words could ever say. I love you, always. ā¤ļø

You know when you’re halfway through making dinner and realise you’re missing an ingredient? šŸ™„šŸ˜‚

Or the sauce isn't quite right, or you've suddenly got an extra person to feed?

One of the things I love about Kalby is that you can ask for help while you're cooking.

Need to swap an ingredient? Ask Kalby.

Want to adjust the flavour? Ask Kalby.

Not sure how to make the recipe stretch a bit further? You can ask that too.

Because even with a recipe in front of me, dinner doesn't always go exactly to plan. šŸ˜‚

That's the kind of practical little help I wanted Kalby to give.

I had to laugh when I saw this photo. šŸ˜‚

There I am, enjoying the beautiful ocean views … and what am I holding?

A Spider-Man bucket. Of course. 🤣

That’s motherhood, isn’t it? Even when you get a moment to enjoy the scenery, you’re still the pack-horse carrying everything the kids insist on taking with them, but get tired of holding within a few minutes!

But it also reminded me of something I think about quite often.

Being a mum is a huge part of who I am, and I absolutely love it. But I’m still me, too.

I still want to feel healthy, strong and confident. I still want to have adventures, learn things, have fun and do things just for me sometimes.

I don't think those two parts of our lives need to compete with each other.

Anyone else seem to be the designated carrier of absolutely everything?

I love a good workout, but I’ve learnt that not every day needs to be a big workout day. šŸ˜‚

Some days you've slept badly, been on the go since early morning, and your energy is just not there.

I used to be much more all-or-nothing about exercise. If I couldn't do the whole workout, it was tempting to do nothing at all.

Now I try to ask myself: what would actually help me feel better today?

Some days it's strength training. Other days it's a walk, a stretch or simply getting outside.

I still believe in challenging yourself. I just don't think it has to look the same every day.

Anyone else a recovering all-or-nothing person? šŸ˜‚ā¤ļø

I’m a little bit excited to share this—my very first published article! 🄹

I wrote about the real reason I created Kalby: the daily ā€œWhat’s for dinner?ā€ decision, fussy eaters, a fridge full of food but no idea what to make—and the emergency cheese sandwich when a new dinner does not go according to plan šŸ˜‚

This is very much my story, but I have a feeling plenty of other parents will relate to it too.

I’d love you to have a read—and please tell me I’m not the only one who has stared into a full fridge with absolutely no idea what to cook!

Some nights I have the energy to cook something lovely from scratch.

Other nights, if everyone is fed and I haven’t had to make three different dinners, I’m calling it a win. šŸ˜‚

Dinner doesn’t need to be impressive.

It just needs to work for your family tonight.

That’s one of the things I want Kalby to help with.

Not Pinterest-perfect dinners. Not complicated recipes with 17 ingredients you don’t have.

Just give me something I can actually make, with the time I’ve got, that my family might actually eat. šŸ˜‚

Because tomorrow we’ll have to answer ā€œwhat’s for dinner?ā€ all over again.

I used to think getting healthier meant changing everything at once.

Eat perfectly. Exercise every day. Drink more water. Sleep 8 hours. Never have w**e. Be calm. šŸ˜‚

Basically become a completely different person by Monday.

No wonder it felt hard.

One of the biggest things I’ve learnt is that the small things you can actually keep doing matter far more than the perfect plan you last four days on.

Pick one thing.
Make it a little easier.
Then keep going.

You don’t have to overhaul your whole life this week. ā¤ļø

There was a time when I could barely get out of bed.

A time when no matter how ā€œhealthyā€ I thought I was eating, I was exhausted and the weight just kept piling on.

Getting healthier wasn’t one big fix for me. It took years of learning, trying things, getting some of it wrong, starting again and slowly figuring out what actually worked for me.

Healing isn’t linear. And what works for one person won’t necessarily work for the next.

That’s a big part of why I became a Health & Wellness Coach.

I’ve been the person who doesn’t know where to start. I’ve spent years learning, training and doing a lot of that heavy lifting — so when I work with someone now, they don’t have to try to work it all out on their own.

If you’re struggling with your health, your energy, your food or movement, or you just know you don’t feel like yourself at the moment, you don’t need to have all the answers before asking for help.

You can book a free 15-minute intro call with me. We’ll have a chat about where you’re at, what you’d like to change and whether I’m the right person to help. ā¤ļø
