Your Eyes Donβt Just See Light β They Control Your Body Clock
Finally we're seeing more about this in mainstream media! New research is again highlighting that light entering our eyes can influence far more than vision. Specialised cells in the retina detect light and send signals to the brainβs biological clock. This helps regulate melatonin, sleep, hormones, blood sugar, metabolism, ageing and much more.
The problem is that modern life has reversed our natural light pattern β less bright natural light during the day and too much artificial light at night. This interferes with our circadian rhythm and metabolic health.
Your eyes are your connection between the outside light environment and your internal biology.
* Get bright natural light during the day
* Dim artificial lighting in the evening
* Reduce bright screens before bed
* Keep your bedroom dark at night
Healthy vision isn't just about what you see β it's also about the light environment your eyes experience every day. Let us know your thoughts and if you have any questions about your light environment
Since the 2000s, our light exposure has changed drastically as we make our buildings more energy-efficient. Now, weβre discovering how this may mess with our mitochondria, contributing to diabetes, dementia and more
