Lipoedema is the most misunderstood condition women suffer. Lymphoedema is part of the problem so yes, manual lymphatic drainage and compression with exercise can stop the condition from progressing. It's important to understand that it must be caught early.
I'm looking forward to the first Lipoedema conference in Australia next year.

We’ve been keeping a big secret — and now we can finally share it with you!

We’re so excited to announce Crown Conference Centre as the venue for the Lipoedema Australia Conference VII, 12-14 November 2027.

This is a co‑located event delivered in collaboration with the Lipedema World Congress.

The Lipedema World Congress will host the scientific and medical program for clinicians, researchers, and patient organisations, while the Lipoedema Australia Conference will deliver the patient and supporter program.

Each event will have a separate program and ticketing structure - more details on this will be outlined on the event websites, which will be launched very soon, along with the opening of registrations and call for abstracts.

Stay tuned for the details as they drop!

Save the date and share this with anyone who needs to know about this milestone event for the global lipoedema community.

If you have unusual fat distribution which bruises easily and does not respond to weight loss measures, you may have lipoedema.
Please read information on the Lipoedema Australia website and find a preferred practitioner to assist you.

We are excited to announce the launch of the Lipoedema Australia Practitioner Directory!

This has been developed in direct response to requests from our community, who have told us how important it is to be able to find health professionals who understand lipoedema.

All practitioners listed are Professional Members of Lipoedema Australia, who have demonstrated their commitment to ongoing education and supporting people living with lipoedema.

You can explore the directory here: https://members.lipoedema.org.au/practitioner-directory

We hope this resource makes it easier to connect with informed, supportive care, and we will continue adding more therapists over time to provide greater choice.

We all need protein to build muscle... but how much? and is exercise an equal partner?
23/08/2026

We all need protein to build muscle... but how much? and is exercise an equal partner?

1.6 g/kg. That's the ceiling. Period.

I've spent over 30 years studying protein and muscle.

People want the answer to be complicated.

It's not.

We pooled 74 randomized controlled trials — nearly 2,700 people — and the signal is clear: once you hit ~1.6 g/kg/day of protein combined with resistance training, more doesn't build more muscle, more strength, more function, more... anything!

"But what about when I'm cutting?"

Fair question. We tested that too.

We put young men in a 40% caloric deficit for 4 weeks with intense exercise. The high-protein group (2.4 g/kg/day) gained 1.2 kg of lean mass and lost 4.8 kg of fat. That's impressive.

But here's what nobody talks about...
The lower-protein group at 1.2 g/kg? They held their muscle. LBM didn't change. They still got stronger. They still improved performance across the board.
So yes, more protein during a hard cut helps you gain a bit of lean mass. But you don't need to panic about hitting 3, 4, 5x the RDA. Even at half the "optimal" dose, muscle was preserved.

The supplement industry would rather you didn't know that.

Here's what actually matters:
→ Hit 1.6 g/kg/day if you're training and want to grow.
→ Cutting hard? Aim for ~2.4 g/kg/day. It helps. It's not magic.
→ Lift! That's the MOST IMPORTANT part that people skip.

The protein you need is less than you think.
The training you need is more than you think.
That's the whole story. I wish it sold more supplements.

Evidence-based, no BS, understanding the limitations of the methods used (lean mass isn't muscle mass), actually did the research, spent years doing the research...

Where Does the Lymph Go After Drainage?

From Puff to Flush—Your Body’s Hidden Detox Highway!

Hey Lymphies!
Ever wondered what actually happens to the lymph after your MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage) or dry brushing session? Where does all that puffiness and extra fluid go? Let’s take a journey through your body’s magical drainage map—because the flow doesn’t stop at your skin!

First Things First—What IS Lymph?

Lymph is a clear-ish fluid filled with:
• Water
• Proteins
• Cellular waste
• Immune cells
• Bacteria, viruses, and toxins

It’s like your body’s wastewater, and your lymphatic system is the plumbing network designed to collect it from your tissues and send it packing!

The Drainage Route (The Fun Part!)

After you stimulate your lymphatic system (through MLD, exercise, rebounding, or infrared saunas), here’s what happens step-by-step:

1. Tissues → Lymph Capillaries
Lymph fluid is collected from between your cells (where waste builds up). Think of this as your body picking up trash from every neighborhood.

2. Lymph Capillaries → Collecting Vessels
These vessels have valves to push lymph forward (like a one-way street!). They move it toward central lymph nodes.

3. Nodes → Filter Party!
Lymph passes through lymph nodes, where it gets filtered. Immune cells here attack bacteria, viruses, and debris.
It’s like your lymph goes through a security checkpoint!

4. Cleaned Lymph → Ducts
Filtered lymph travels to the thoracic duct (left side of your neck) or right lymphatic duct—the final stop before exiting!

5. Ducts → Subclavian Vein
Here’s the magic moment!
The ducts drain the lymph directly into your bloodstream, at the base of your neck, where the subclavian vein lives.

6. Bloodstream → Kidneys + Liver
Now the filtered lymph becomes part of your circulating blood. From here:
• Kidneys filter out water-soluble waste → p*e it out!
• Liver handles fat-soluble toxins and waste → p**p it out!

And voilà!
Your lymph just became waste… and left your body.
Flush complete!

That’s Why You Might Notice…
• More p*eing after a session
• Increased bowel movements
• Feeling thirsty
• Fatigue (your body is processing the detox!)
• Reduced swelling or puffiness

So YES—you’re not imagining it. The flush is real.

Fun Lymphie Facts:
• You have 500–700 lymph nodes in your body!
• The thoracic duct drains around 75% of your lymph!
• Your lymphatic system can move 1.5–3 liters of lymph per day with the right support!
• No heart? No pump! The lymph system depends on movement, breath, and pressure (that’s why you NEED to move!).

Support the Flush:
• Hydrate (lymph is mostly water!)
• Move daily (walking, rebounding, stretching)
• Breathe deep (diaphragmatic breathing helps move lymph!)
• Massage & MLD
• Eat clean (to reduce toxin load)

So, Where Does It Go?

In simple terms:
Lymph → Blood → Kidneys/Liver → Toilet!
Your body is brilliant. And your lymphatic system? Even more so.

So the next time you finish your session and head to the loo—give a little thanks to the silent flow keeping you well.

An interesting finding. Who'd have thought?

An interesting finding. Who'd have thought?

One possible cause of frozen shoulder is … infection. 🦠

The causality isn’t proven, but it does rest on some decent evidence. And it’s a good example of an unexpected (and maybe underestimated) pathological mechanism for a common painful problem: a slow-burn infection of a joint with Propionibacterium acnes.

How does it get in there?

P. acnes is endemic on our skin and in our pores, harder to wipe out than bed bugs — so even a properly disinfected incision site isn’t always P. acnes free, and it can get dragged into the joint by surgical tools.

And IF surgery can do it, then there’s probably a much more common way for P. ACNES to catch a ride into the joint capsule… injection. Needles. 💉

And an awful lot of shoulders got needled during the pandemic, so we have a LOT more case reports to work with than ever before — formal “anecdata.”

NEW POST, an excerpt from my frozen shoulder book, with updated science and a new audio version for members. About another 1000 words of detail and citations:
