A strong show of support from Dave Hughes in solidarity with Victorian public hospital doctors navigating enterprise bargaining.

It’s not just doctors having discussions about whether this is the healthcare system we want. Victorians are standing together.

AMA Victoria was shocked by yesterday’s attack on Dr Helen Haines MP in Wangaratta.

Elected representatives should be able to serve their communities safely. Our immediate focus is on Helen and her recovery.

We have been in contact with Helen’s office about the challenges facing Albury Wodonga Health and the health needs of the border community. We have valued that engagement and her concern for patients, local doctors, and the services on which her community relies.

Helen’s background as a nurse, midwife, and health researcher gives her a longstanding connection to regional health care. Her commitment to the people she represents has been clear in her advocacy for better local services.

Our thoughts are with Helen, her family, friends, and colleagues, and the community she serves. We join them in hoping for her full recovery.

Join AMA Victoria and RACGP Victoria on Saturday 31 October for a special pre-election healthcare debate, bringing together political representatives to discuss the future of Victoria's health system.

Georgie Crozier MP, Shadow Minister for Health, Dr Sarah Mansfield MP, Victorian Greens health spokesperson, and Colleen Harkin, Deputy Leader of One Nation Party Victoria, have confirmed their participation.

The Government remains the exception. It has yet to confirm its participation, despite first being invited months ago. That is disappointing. A government seeking another term should welcome the opportunity to explain its record and plans to the doctors who keep Victoria’s health system running. Its absence would speak for itself.

Help us secure Government participation by writing to Minister for Health and Mental Health Ingrid Stitt MP at [email protected], asking that she attend or nominate an appropriate Government representative.
