TLAP An initiative to reduce the blood lead levels of children living in Port Pirie. With TLAP help is at hand.

For details on our programs and activities visit our website The TLAP (Targeted Lead Abatement Program) goal is to enhance the existing community blood lead reduction initiatives to in children. Specifically TLAP will aim to increase the percentage of children in Port Pirie aged 0 to 4 years who have blood lead levels within the NHMRC guidelines to 95% within 10 years. Nyrstar Redevelopment delivers continued support for community exposure reduction programs. In parallel with the redevelopment project a new Targeted Lead Abatement Program (TLAP) was implemented. TLAP has been developed to assess current and potential future community lead exposure reduction strategies and assess which are likely to have the greatest impact on reducing children’s blood lead levels. Nyrstar has committed up to AUD 3 million per annum for up to 10 years and a further AUD 5 million to accelerate the objectives of TLAP. The AUD 3 million is representative of Nyrstar previous financial commitments. The South Australian Government will commit approximately AUD 1.5 million per annum for up to 10 years. A joint Nyrstar and SA Government Committee has been formed to facilitate the implementation of TLAP.

It’s spring, which means Jaymie’s getting plants ready for the ground, and another busy planting season is underway at TLAP.
Our goal is simple: use vegetation to help reduce environmental lead by covering bare soil. Over the years, we’ve helped green key sites across Port Pirie, with more planting to come.
Keep an eye out for the crew around town, and say hi to Jaymie if you spot her.

The TLAP Green Team has been busy! 🌱

The team recently completed planting at the Port Pirie Tennis Club, just in time for the upcoming tennis season 🎾
The new plants will help cover bare soil and keep dust down at this much-loved community space for local families and children.

Check out the pics below of our team's awesome work! 😊📸

A big thanks to everyone who joined us yesterday at the Smelter's Picnic! 😊

It was great to connect with the Port Pirie community and chat about our programs and the work we do to reduce lead exposure around the town.

We also reached a new milestone, giving away 400 native plants, making it our biggest community plant giveaway to date. These plants will help reduce dust around the town and contribute to creating a greener Port Pirie 🪴

We also extend a massive thank you to our TLAP Nursey staff whose hard work made this record give away possible. Propagating, growing and preparing hundreds of plants is no small task, we are grateful for their efforts.

If you missed out on a plant yesterday, make sure to follow us on socials to hear about our next plant giveaway and to stay up to date with TLAP activities 😊

Thanks again to all who attended, we can't wait to see you at our next event!

Meet Jake and the team behind our daily sweeping program. Seven days a week they are out cleaning footpaths and gutters to make Port Pirie cleaner and safer for our community, especially our kids.

Street sweeping does more than keep our town looking its best. By removing dust and debris, the team is helping to reduce the movement of lead dust in our community.

Lilly and Jack are part of our in-home testing program. Available to both families and to households that are expecting or planning to grow a family.

They use special lead detection equipment to find potential lead sources around your property, from lead in the soil to lead paint on downpipes and gutters. For them, it's about protecting the very community that they live in. Reach out to the team, schedule your home assessment and get peace of mind.
