Something I've noticed through my own Holistic Pulsing sessions is that a theme can come up, I can spend time with it, and then much later it appears again in another session. The first reaction can be to wonder why it's back when I thought I'd already worked through it.

Over time, I've come to see that revisiting something doesn't necessarily mean we've gone backwards. Sometimes a familiar theme shows up in a different context, or we become aware of an aspect we hadn't recognised before. The theme might be familiar, but our perspective on it can change.

I think we can put a lot of pressure on ourselves to deal with something once and never encounter it again. When it does return, it's easy to see that as a sign we've failed to move on. But a return can also give us another opportunity to notice something, understand it differently or simply meet it from where we are now.

Have you found that something can feel different when it comes around a second time?

We can get quite good at adapting when something about our body changes. We adjust the way we do things, find little workarounds and carry on with everyday life. Sometimes it's only when we stop and address the change that we realise just how much we've been compensating.

Our senses shape so much of our day-to-day experience. They help us take in what's around us, connect with people and enjoy the small things we might otherwise overlook. It's easy to take them for granted when they're simply part of how we move through the world.

Paying attention to our bodies isn't always about making a big change. Sometimes it starts with acknowledging something we've been working around and deciding it deserves our attention.

Which of your five senses would be hardest for you to live without, and what would you miss most about it?

It's easy to become the person who keeps everything running at home. You remember what needs doing, organise the day-to-day jobs and get on with things because it's often quicker than asking someone else to do them. Over time, those jobs can become yours by default, even when the people around you are perfectly capable of taking on more.

Changing that can mean letting other people learn, even when it takes longer or they do things differently to you. It can also mean being honest with yourself about what you're taking on out of habit, rather than because it's genuinely yours to do.

There's a difference between caring for the people we live with and managing every part of their lives. Sharing responsibility gives everyone a chance to contribute, and it leaves less for one person to carry.

How much do we sometimes take on simply because we're used to being the one who gets it done?

Familiar surroundings can give us a sense of stability, which is why even small changes around us can catch our attention.

A neighbour moves out, a new family arrives, or a place we've passed every day suddenly looks different. Life carries on, but the familiar picture we had of our surroundings begins to shift.

We don't always get to choose the changes that happen around us. What we can do is notice our response, rather than automatically resisting what's different or assuming everything needs to return to how it was.

Sometimes these moments also invite us to consider our own circumstances. Are we choosing what feels right for us now, or simply continuing with what we know because it's familiar?

Taking a moment to reflect can open up possibilities we might otherwise overlook.

Eating is something we do every day, often without giving much thought to the experience itself.

We can be halfway through a meal while answering messages, thinking about what needs doing next or barely registering what we're putting into our mouths. Food becomes another task to get through, rather than an experience we take the time to enjoy.

Compare that with picking a ripe piece of fruit, noticing its smell and texture, tasting its sweetness and appreciating the time it took to grow. The experience changes when our attention is actually there.

Our bodies have real work to do processing what we eat, so what we choose to put into them matters. But so does the way we approach nourishment. Slowing down enough to taste, appreciate and enjoy our food can bring us back into a more considered relationship with something we do every single day.

Sometimes the rhythm of our lives doesn't line up neatly with what we expect our bodies to need.

There are times when work, family or other commitments call for our attention just as we're moving through a period when we might naturally prefer to slow down. We can find ourselves balancing what needs to be done with the signals we're receiving from our own bodies.

Neither side of that experience has to be dismissed. Being able to show up for life matters, and so does recognising when we need to adjust our pace or allow ourselves some space.

The useful question isn't always how to make everything fit perfectly. Sometimes it's about noticing what's happening and responding to ourselves with the same consideration we give to everything else we're managing.

You might find yourself holding back an opinion, agreeing to something that doesn't suit you, or changing your plans to keep things comfortable for everyone else.

Nobody has necessarily asked you to do any of these things. You've simply learnt to anticipate what might be expected and respond accordingly.

Being able to adapt is useful. Relationships need give and take, and we can't always have things our own way. The difficulty is when adjusting becomes so automatic that your own preferences barely get a look in.

Over time, it can become harder to recognise whether you're making a genuine choice or following a familiar response.

Sometimes, these patterns run so automatically that we don't even stop to question them. Through massage, Holistic Pulsing and Holistic Energy Healing, I offer space to slow down, tune into yourself and explore what's happening beneath the surface.

Because there's a difference between choosing to accommodate someone and feeling as though you have to.

When you're used to being the capable one, it's easy to become the person who responds first and thinks about themselves later.

You remember what needs doing, anticipate what might be needed and find a way to fit it all in. You might know exactly what everyone else needs, yet struggle to answer a simple question about what you want or what would work for you.

Often, there's no deliberate decision to put yourself last. It's simply become the familiar way of responding, and you may not notice until you're already committed.

This is one of the things I find valuable about taking time to reconnect with the body. Rather than immediately moving into the next task or making another decision, you have space to notice your own response.

Because being able to do something and actually wanting to do it are two different things.

Some women are remarkably good at keeping everything going, even when the way they're living is taking a toll on them.

They adjust, accommodate, push through and find another way to manage. From the outside, they might look as though they're doing just fine, because they've become so practised at working around what isn't working for them.

But there's a difference between coping with something and recognising what it's actually costing you. Sometimes we get so caught up in managing life that we don't pause long enough to notice what we're feeling, or what our bodies might be telling us.

Creating that space to slow down and pay attention can be a valuable starting point, without needing to have all the answers straight away.
