A little preparation can help your pre-employment medical run more smoothly.

Start by checking any instructions provided by your employer or Sale Medical Centre, as requirements can vary between roles and assessments.

Depending on what has been requested, you may need to bring:

âś” Photo identification
âś” Employer paperwork, forms or instructions
âś” Details of medications you currently take
✔ Any medical information you’ve been asked to provide
âś” Glasses, contact lenses or other aids you normally use

If specific preparation is required, make sure you follow the instructions provided beforehand.

Not sure what you need? Call Sale Medical Centre on (03) 5144 5766 before your appointment.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a good reminder to pay attention to what’s normal for your body. If you notice a new or unusual breast change, even if you’re unsure whether it’s worth raising, book an appointment and talk it through with your GP.

You don’t need to have everything figured out before booking a women’s health appointment. It can be a place to ask questions and discuss contraception, IUD or implant options, pregnancy care, perimenopause, menopause or any other changes you’ve noticed.

Some services require a particular practitioner or appointment type. If you’re unsure what to book, call Sale Medical Centre on (03) 5144 5766.

For employers, arranging the right pre-employment medical starts with clear information about the role.

Before referring a worker, please confirm:
âś” The position and its physical demands
âś” Any relevant workplace risks
âś” Required forms or medical standards
âś” Whether additional testing is needed
âś” How the results or documentation should be provided

Requirements vary between roles and industries, so providing the correct instructions from the beginning helps us organise the appropriate assessment.

To discuss the medical requirements for a role or confirm the appropriate assessment, contact Sale Medical Centre on (03) 5144 5766.

Why does Q fever screening take two visits?

If you work around livestock or animal products, you may need Q fever vaccination for your role. However, the vaccine can only be given after pre-vaccination screening.

At your first appointment, we:

• review your medical and occupational history
• arrange a blood test
• perform a skin test

You’ll return around seven days later so the skin test can be read and both results can be reviewed. If the results show that vaccination is suitable, the Q-VAX vaccine can then be given.

This process helps determine whether you may already have immunity to Q fever and whether vaccination is appropriate.

Sale Medical Centre offers Q fever screening and vaccination for eligible people at occupational risk, including farmers and abattoir workers.

Call (03) 5144 5766 to arrange your appointments and check what you need to bring.

Meet Dr. Laura Noel-Gough 👩🏼‍⚕️ from Medical Centre

Dr Laura Noel is a General Practitioner working part-time at Sale Medical Centre, with a special interest in women’s health and mental health. Her experience has been shaped by working across five different states in Australia, giving her the opportunity to work with women from a wide range of backgrounds and stages of life.

Outside of medicine, Laura is a mother of two, a defence spouse and a Kiwi.

Her approach to medicine is patient-focused and centred around open, strong communication, creating a supportive environment where women feel heard, informed and comfortable discussing their health.

At Sparkle, Dr Laura Noel-Gough will explore the role of hormone therapy during the menopausal transition, helping you better understand what it is, when it may be considered, and what you might want to discuss with your doctor.

She’ll cover when doctors might consider starting hormone therapy, the potential benefits, common risks and side effects, and some of the questions you may want to ask when considering whether it’s right for you.

A practical, evidence-informed conversation designed to help you feel more informed and confident when navigating your menopause health.

Working offshore or at sea? You may not need to travel to Melbourne for your medical.

Sale Medical Centre provides OEUK offshore medicals and AMSA seafarer medical assessments for workers across Sale and Gippsland.

OEUK and AMSA are separate medical standards with different requirements, so please contact us before booking. We can confirm which medical you need, the correct appointment pathway, what paperwork to bring and whether your employer has requested additional testing.

For local offshore energy workers, seafarers and maritime crew, that means access to these assessments closer to home.
