I never started my career thinking I would one day build a healthcare company.

I started as a nurse.

Like most nurses, my focus was simple — get through the shift, look after my patients, support the team and go home knowing I had done my job properly.

But working in healthcare showed me something else.

I saw what happened when a shift was short.

One missing person didn’t just leave a gap on a roster.

It meant another nurse carrying more responsibility.
Someone missing their break.
A medication round becoming more stressful.
And sometimes, less time available for the person who actually needed the care.

That experience changed the way I looked at healthcare staffing.

Eventually, it became part of the reason I started Healthy Care Solutions.

Today, I spend much more time thinking about contracts, recruitment, rosters, clients and growing a business.

But underneath the business shirt — or in this case, the scrubs — I’m still a nurse.

And I think that matters.

Because when a facility calls us saying they desperately need someone tonight, I understand what is happening on the other side of that phone.

There is still a very long way to go with Healthy Care Solutions.

But whatever size we become, I want us to remember why the business exists in the first place:

There is a person behind every shift we fill.

That’s something healthcare taught me before business ever did.

A lesson I keep learning in business: relationships compound.

When I started building Healthy Care Solutions, much of my attention was naturally on staffing — finding good people, covering shifts and responding quickly when healthcare services needed support.

But over time, I’ve realised that the real business we are building is based on trust.

Trust from a facility that calls when they have an unexpected roster gap.

Trust from a nurse who chooses to represent our organisation.

Trust from a manager who gives us another opportunity after something hasn’t gone perfectly.

And trust from regional communities that depend on healthcare services having the people they need.

You don’t build that through one phone call, one contract or one successful shift.

You build it by showing up consistently, communicating when things are difficult, taking responsibility and doing what you say you will do.

There is still plenty for me to learn and a long way for Healthy Care Solutions to grow.

But I’m increasingly convinced that sustainable growth isn’t just about becoming bigger.

It’s about becoming more trusted.

Every HCS RN, EN and PCA is automatically eligible.

This recognition isn't about how many shifts you work. It's about how you work when you're there.

When attending a facility, focus on the things that make an exceptional agency staff member:

✓ Introduce yourself and communicate with the team
✓ Treat every resident with dignity and compassion
✓ Support the RN in charge and your colleagues
✓ Take responsibility for your allocated duties
✓ Escalate concerns appropriately
✓ Complete clear documentation and handover
✓ Be punctual, professional and reliable
✓ Don't think “I'm only agency” — become part of the team for that shift

If a facility manager, clinical manager or RN in charge notices exceptional work, they can provide HCS with feedback or nominate you.
