GV Healthโ€™s Emergency Department (ED) is experiencing high demand, resulting in lengthy wait times for patients with non-urgent matters.

We ask that community members only come to the Emergency Department for conditions that are urgent or life-threatening.

The Shepparton Medicare Urgent Care Clinic (UCC) provides urgent care for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses. The UCC is located at 49 Graham Street. For more information, including operating hours visit https://shepmed.mthc.com.au/mucc/

The Virtual Emergency Department is another alternative service that lets you access care for non-life-threatening emergencies. It is available 24/7 via a video call from anywhere in Victoria, connecting you with emergency doctors and nurses. Visit https://ved.vic.gov.au/

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the message from local breast cancer survivor John Bush is simple:

"Blokes get breast cancer too.โ€

Breast cancer develops in breast tissue, which we all have, no matter what s*x we are. About 207 of the 20,336 Australians estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2025 were men, according to Cancer Australia, and one in 668 Australian men will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

Because men often donโ€™t expect it, they tend to be diagnosed later. Nearly half are diagnosed at stage three, when the cancer has already grown.

John found a lump last November when his T-shirt caught on his chest, and saw his GP straight away. McGrath/GV Health Breast Care Nurse Michelle Parish (alongside John, pictured L-R) shares the signs men should look out for: a lump (often behind the ni**le), changes to the ni**le, or fluid coming from the ni**le. ๐Ÿ‘‡

โ€œEarly detection is the key,โ€ Michelle said.

From Monday 19 October until Monday 23 November, the After-Hours Entrance corridor at Shepparton Hospital will be closed while works are undertaken to install a new PET scanner.

The corridor, which connects the Hub and the Fairley Wind lifts, is a key thoroughfare through the hospital.

During this time, community members will need to use an alternative route to move through the hospital.

If you're attending an appointment or visiting a patient, please allow some extra time to reach your destination. Friendly volunteers will be available to provide directions and assistance.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we complete these important works to enhance healthcare facilities for our community.

What a night at the 2026 Victorian Public Healthcare Awards! ๐ŸŽ‰

๐Ÿ† Winner: Lotjpa Yapaneyepuk (Talk Together) has won the Excellence in Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Award. The project is a collaboration between Border Medical Oncology Research Unit, Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-Operative and GV Health. Through yarning sessions on Yorta Yorta Country, community members co-designed culturally safe video resources to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples understand and access cancer clinical trials.

โ€œThis award belongs to all of us, and most importantly recognises the community members whose generosity, stories and leadership have been at the heart of the project.โ€ โ€“ Dr Javier Torres, Consultant Medical Oncologist, GV Health ๐Ÿ’›

โœจ Finalist: We were also proud to be shortlisted for the Partnering in Healthcare Award, alongside The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. Together we established a Victorian-first partnership that delivers cochlear implant surgery to regional Victoria.

Staff in GV Healthโ€™s Dialysis unit pulled on their brightest red socks this week for Kidney Health Australiaโ€™s 2026 Red Socks Challenge! ๐Ÿงฆโค๏ธ

Throughout October, Australians are walking, running, swimming, or riding 60 kilometres. Thatโ€™s one kilometre for each of the roughly 60 hours a month people on dialysis spend connected to a machine.

Dialysis can leave patients feeling cold, especially in their feet, so warm socks are a must. Thatโ€™s how the red socks idea began.

Many Australians have early signs of kidney disease and donโ€™t know it, and you can lose most of your kidney function before you notice any symptoms. Ask your GP about a kidney health check.
