Struggling with your let-down reflex? Let’s talk. 🍼💭

Let-down is what makes milk flow — it’s a powerful reflex triggered by oxytocin (your love + connection hormone). It can feel like tingling, warmth, pressure… or sometimes, nothing at all.

For some mums, it happens instantly. For others, it’s slower or hard to notice — especially when stress, tension, or exhaustion take over.

✨ You might notice let-down kick in when:
• Your baby cries — or even when you think about them
• You’re snuggled up skin-to-skin
• You take a warm shower
• You finally get 30 seconds to relax (rare, I know 😅)

And if it feels delayed or you're not sure it's happening — you're not broken.
There are ways we can support it, together.

"When should I reach out for breastfeeding support?"

This is one of the most common questions I’m asked — and the answer is simple:

👉 As soon as you feel unsure, overwhelmed, or in need of clarity.
Whether it’s painful feeds, latch concerns, low supply, or just wanting to check you're doing it right — early support can make a world of difference. 💛

You don’t need to wait until things get really hard.

Families often reach out for help with:
✔️ Tongue tie assessment & pre/post-release care
✔️ Painful latch or ni**le damage
✔️ Bottle refusal
✔️ Low or fluctuating supply
✔️ Breast refusal
✔️ Bottle or mixed feeding plans
✔️ Pumping & returning to work
✔️ Emotional overwhelm, validation & reassurance
✨ And everything in between.

📍Available in-home, in-clinic (St James), and via virtual consults.
✨ Bookings open now via www.matrescencenurse.com.au
Or feel free to DM — if you’re unsure where to start, I’ll help guide you gently.

🌸 Why Breastfeeding Positions Matter

Breastfeeding is a beautiful and intimate experience, but did you know that the right position can make a big difference for both you and your baby? 🤱✨ Finding the right position helps with latch, comfort, and even preventing common issues like ni**le pain. Here are six positions to try:

💖 1. The Cradle Hold
This classic position allows your baby’s body to be close to yours, with their head resting in the crook of your arm. It’s a go-to for many mums, especially in the early days.

💖 2. The Cross-Cradle Hold
Perfect for those needing more control over the latch. Hold your baby with the opposite arm (from the breast you’re feeding on) to gently guide their head to your breast.

💖 3. The Football Hold
This one’s great for mums with larger breasts or after a C-section. Baby’s body tucks under your arm like a football while they latch, keeping them close and supported.

💖 4. The Side-Lying Position
In this position, you lie on your side while your baby lies on their back beside you, turning their head to latch onto the breast. It’s perfect for night feeds and can help both of you get some rest.

💖 5. The Laid-Back Hold (Biological Nurturing)
In this natural position, you lean back comfortably while your baby lies on top of you. It’s a great option for helping babies latch instinctively and can be soothing for both of you.

💖 6. The Upright or ‘Koala’ Hold
For babies who are more alert or have reflux, this position allows them to sit upright with their head resting at your breast, giving gravity a helping hand.

💚 Remember: Every baby and Mum is different. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different positions to find the one that works best for you both. Comfort is key for successful breastfeeding!

🌸 Signs Your Baby May Have an Oral Dysfunction

As a parent, noticing something isn’t quite right with your baby’s feeding can be overwhelming—whether you're breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Oral dysfunctions can impact babies regardless of how they are fed, and recognizing the signs early is key to getting the support you need. Here are some signs to watch for:

💖 Feeding Challenges
• Trouble latching during breastfeeding or difficulty accepting the bottle
• Painful breastfeeding or ni**le damage (for breastfeeding)
• Frequent or long feeds
• Clicking sounds or loss of suction while feeding
• Preference for bottle feeding over breastfeeding, or vice versa

💖 Physical Symptoms
• Lip blisters from feeding
• Reflux or frequent spit-up
• Gassiness or colic-like symptoms
• Poor weight gain or slow growth
• A high, narrow palate or tongue/lip restrictions

💖 Developmental Indicators
• Mouth breathing instead of nasal breathing
• Difficulty transitioning to solids
• Delayed or unusual speech development

💚 A gentle reminder: These signs don’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. Oral dysfunctions are more common than you might think, and with the right support, many challenges can be resolved. It's important to remember that your baby may show only one or some of these signs—not all of them—and still be experiencing oral dysfunction. Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, I can help you navigate these challenges with personalised care.

💬 If you’re feeling unsure or have any concerns, I’m here to help. Book an appointment via my website www.matrescencenurse.com.au. You’re not alone on this journey—together, we’ll find a solution to help your baby thrive. 🌸
