This was a lot of fun! 🐴

Yesterday, Shianne visited Glenelg Equestrian Centre. to deliver a theory session as part of their school holiday camp. 🐴

The session focused on the important role strength training plays in equestrian sport. Such as: Improving strength and stability in the saddle, supporting better riding technique and position, reduce the risk of injury and improving riding fitness and endurance.

A big thank you to all the riders who took part and to Keith, for inviting us out🐴

✨Some horse wisdom✨
I think we could learn a thing or two from our horses 🐴

Trust the process. 🐴🤎

Bob was an unhandled yearling when I purchased him.

He had very little human interaction and came from a large property out west. When he came to me, he was suddenly exposed to all the things that come with everyday life: cars, machinery, people, noises, new environments and everything in between.

And he was reactive.

I’ve had plenty of people tell me that Bob was dangerous. That he was too hard. That I should give up.

But Bob is super cuddly, very affectionate and very trusting. At lest with me. He doesn’t like strangers very much.

I wasn’t going to give up, so I gave him time.

We slowly introduced new things. We worked through the things that scared him. Some days we made huge progress, and other days we simply went back to basics. But we stayed consistent.

I never put a time limit on his training. We still don’t have a time limit. We just have our goals.

I didn’t care how long it takes.

I just focused on being consistent, patient and giving him the time he needed to understand and build confidence.

And now, a year later, we have finally reached a pretty special milestone.

I’m able to get on him, and we’ve started his training under saddle.

We have a very long way to go.

But that’s not the point.
Sometimes you just need to trust the process.

Don’t rush the things that take time.

Be patient.
Be consistent.
Celebrate the small wins.

I’m very proud of my boy🐴

Exactly one year ago, Sharon sustained a broken back after a fall from her horse.

Today, she achieved the goal she set from the very beginning…

She rode her horse, Cash, for the first time. 🐴🥳

Returning to riding after a serious injury isn’t just about healing the injury itself. It’s about rebuilding strength, stability, balance, coordination, confidence, and the physical capacity to meet the demands of riding and horse ownership.

Over the past 12 months, Sharon has consistently shown up, completed her rehabilitation, committed to her strength program, and trusted the process. Every session had a purpose, building the foundations needed to safely return to the saddle.

Congratulations, Sharon. Your determination has been incredible! I can’t wait to continue working with you and Cash as we keep building strength, confidence, and riding fitness. This is just the beginning of the next chapter.

Here’s to many more rides on Cash. 💙🐴

Why does a rider’s leg move in canter? 🐎

It’s rarely a “leg problem.”

Canter is an asymmetrical gait. If a rider has:
• reduced pelvic control
• core instability
• hip or inner-thigh weakness
• side-to-side asymmetry
the body looks for stability somewhere else.

And the leg becomes the stabiliser.

Instead of the pelvis and trunk absorbing movement, the leg swings, grips, or lifts as the rider subconsciously tries to stay balanced.

That’s why:
• it often happens on one side
• it shows up most in canter
• telling a rider to “keep their leg still” doesn’t work

This is where Equine Exercise Physiology helps.

As an Equine EP, I look at how the rider’s body controls movement on the horse, not just position.
I assess asymmetries, pelvic and core control, and how the rider manages load in canter, then use targeted in-saddle strategies and off-horse exercises to retrain stability where it should come from. 🐴
