πΈ Sunday with Lyla ~ filled with choice, community and a little bit of baking magic! πΈ
Lylaβs Sunday with Little Bean Respite began with a visit to a local market, where she had the opportunity to practise her orientation and mobility skills, navigate a busy community environment, look at the farm animals and enjoy some live music πΆποΈ
We then headed back to Little Bean base for some spring cookie baking and decorating πͺπΈ
Lyla particularly enjoyed the hands-on parts of baking ~ rolling the dough, mixing the ingredients, pressing out the cookies and mixing colours into the icing π
These simple activities provide lots of opportunities for meaningful skill development, including:
β¨ Rolling and pressing ~ building hand strength, coordination and motor control
β¨ Mixing ~ developing bilateral coordination, upper-limb strength and hand-eye coordination
β¨ Pressing out the cookies ~ practising precision, control and following a sequence
β¨ Mixing colours into the icing ~ encouraging fine motor control, visual skills, sensory exploration and creativity
β¨ Decorating ~ supporting concentration, decision-making and self-expression
Baking also provides opportunities to practise planning, sequencing, following instructions, problem-solving and completing a task from beginning to end.
From an NDIS perspective, activities like this can support choice and control, independence, communication and the development of everyday living skills ~ all while participating in something enjoyable and meaningful.
And after all that hard work, we headed out for a well-earned lunch at the Marina and some hot chips! ππ
We love that skill development doesnβt have to feel like work. Everyday experiences, community participation and activities children genuinely enjoy can create wonderful opportunities to build confidence, independence and functional skills. π
At Little Bean Respite, weβre all about creating opportunities for children to make choices, participate meaningfully and have fun while developing skills that can support greater independence in everyday life.
