TRANSPERSONAL ART THERAPIST & COUNSELLOR
I'm qualified Transpersonal Art Therapist and Counsellor. I help people reclaim joy through creativity. I offer one-to-one online tranpsersonal art therapy and counselling sessions to adults.

This is a gentle, creative space for self-discovery and healing. Art therapy utilises a mix of art making and counselling to explore the deeper layers of your inner world—beyond words and surface stories. You don’t need any art experience, just a willingness to be curious.

Transpersonal art therapy supports you to reconnect with lost parts of yourself, make meaning from your experiences, and feel more grounded, whole, and aligned. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply craving something more, these sessions offer a safe and compassionate space to explore what’s calling you—at your own pace.

If you are curious about working together please get in touch to book a free 15 mins discovery call where we can see if we are good fit.

Exquisite Co**se Workshop
📅 Friday 30th October | 6:00pm – 8:30pm

Step into the gallery after dark for a curious, slightly surreal drawing game. Originally played by the French Surrealists, Exquisite Co**se is a collaborative game of chance where players build unseen figures together—passing folded papers around so no one knows what the final piece looks like until the big reveal!

This workshop is to celebrate two things: the current exhibition Anatomy Lessons by Michele Beevors and Halloween.

Absolutely no "drawing skills" required—just bring your curiosity and an openness to play.

Hi, I’m Mary-Helen, a transpersonal art therapist and holistic counsellor. My practice is dedicated to supporting people who don't feel like they fit the 'mould' in life—people who are ready to stop people-pleasing, quiet the outside noise, and start actually learning to listen to themselves again.

If you're just exploring, you'll find free creative resources and reflections over on my website and YouTube channel. I also run community workshops and creative challenges throughout the year.

For 1:1 work, I offer online Transpersonal Art Therapy & Holistic Counselling, as well as NDIS Counselling and Peer Mentoring. The work we do together is gentle, compassionate, and nervous-system informed—no rushing, no rigid agendas, and no pressure to turn yourself into a self-improvement project.

If you’re curious about working together, the simplest way to start is by booking a free discovery call through the link in my bio. We can have a chat about what brings you to therapy and see if my approach is the right fit for you.

So every year I run a free creative challenge, and I've made some videos for those who are standing at the threshold of jumping in but perhaps might not know how to get started.

At its heart, the purpose of this challenge is simply to build a daily creative habit, and in that process, you might just discover something new about yourself.

Sometimes it is the case that people don't think they have any ideas, or that they may have too many ideas. Or perhaps they are worried they have to stick to a theme, art medium, or style. And the truth is you don't! However, the mind is such a trickster it might convince you that there is a way you "should" do the challenge.

I want to acknowledge how clever the mind is at protecting us from vulnerability, e.g., creativity and expression. It IS scary. Absolutely. And sometimes when there aren't a lot of boundaries in creative invitation, we might even create some invisible rules to help build guardrails. At the same time, this might set up expectations of what is meant to happen on your creative journey and prevent you from actually experiencing it with all the ups, downs, and uncertainties that inherently present themselves along the way.

In saying all of that, I've created a video to help those who might overthink or get a little tangled up in perfection, but who really would like to do the challenge with a little more direction.

Check out the video over at youtube (link in comments) and join the Drawing Prompt Challenge, we start on 1st of Nov.

It’s normal to want to grow. But when “self-improvement” turns into endless self-critique, hyper-vigilance, and a fear of ever getting things wrong, it’s no longer about healing. It can become an invisible cage where you’re constantly policing yourself just to feel safe and accepted.
True healing isn’t about fixing yourself so you can present a shiny, perfect version for the world to approve of. It’s about unraveling the layers of who you were told to be, so you can find the essence of who you actually are.

And that takes permission.

Permission to be messy. Permission not to have all the answers. Permission to express the things you couldn’t say when life moved too fast or space wasn’t available, perhaps even before you had words.

Creative expression and process art is a place where you don’t have to perform or produce a ‘good’ result.
You don’t have to package yourself or turn your struggles into content.
You don’t need to explain yourself or what you make or why.
You don’t have to find a resolve or insight. You don’t have to be “improved”, better or heal after it.

It is a vehicle to meet yourself without judgment, and remember what it feels like to be in your own body without all the noise.
